The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have taken the lead in the NFC South after a big-time home win over the Carolina Panthers, 19-14. Baker Mayfield and the Bucs do just enough to extend their season just another day. Their hopes of winning their fifth straight NFC South title are still alive.
Buccaneers Win 16-14

For a game that started with a monsoon, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers found a way to hold on 16-14. After Mayfield connected with Cade Otton in the first quarter, it was a struggle for Tampa’s offense. This team played ground control. Bucky Irving had a season-high 26 carries for 85 yards, 98 from scrimmage. This team has the potential to be a dangerous team in the playoffs, assuming they make it.
It’s been great to see the ups and downs from this Buccaneer team. From storming out to one of the hottest starts in franchise history to hitting a wall starting in Week 9. This 2026 season has been a roller coaster of emotions for the Bucs fans. However, the season isn’t over; there’s still one more day.
What Happens Now?
Despite the outcome of this game, both these teams will be on the edge of their seats come tomorrow afternoon. Ironically, Atlanta Falcons vs. the New Orleans Saints becomes the determining factor. If the Falcons defeat NOLA, then the Panthers would make the playoffs due to their tiebreaker with the Bucs. What happens if the Saints win? Then, Mayfield and the Buccaneers would clinch another NFC South division title. For a division that appeared to be one of the worst in the NFL, it might be one of the most exciting entering Week 18.
Final Thoughts
With the future of the NFC South still up in the air, it all comes down to tomorrow. This is what fans want and what we deserve. Do you think either of these teams could make a run in the postseason, and who do you think wins the NFC South?
