Bondi

The ice has cracked completely under Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was just told by President Trump that she is out of a job. The president apparently hit his breaking point with the Attorney General and her botched release of the Epstein files. With the walls closing in on Trump due to the Iran War, citizen deaths at the hands of ICE agents, and skyrocketing prices, Ms. Bondi was a distraction that the president could no longer tolerate.

Prelude to Bondi’s Dismissal

Keen Beltway observers have seen this coming since last year. Bondi has botched the release of the Epstein files. at every turn as the pressure, especially from within his own party, continues to ratchet up. The expectations started when a then-candidate Trump campaigned in 2024, promising to release all of the classified information about the convicted pedophile.

Bondi lit a match to fire in when, after being sworn in early last year, she told Fox News that she had key documents, including Mr. Epstein’s client list, sitting on her desk and promised full disclosure of their contents.

She then passed out partially filled white binders to right-wing supporters labeled “Epstein Files: Phase 1” that contained almost no new information. This prompted accusations of a cover-up, especially from Freedom Caucus members who had campaigned on cleaning up the cesspool that was Washington, D.C.

After that fiasco, her team hinted that there might not be a Phase 2 release of the documents, further escalating the situation. After a summer of inaction by Bondi and the Justice Department on the matter, Congress passed a law requiring the release of the files by Nov. 18. The deadline was met, but the department released only a portion of the remaining files, which were heavily redacted.

Recent Events and Possible Replacement

These rumors persisted as Bondi prepares to appear before the House Oversight Committee on April 14, after being subpoenaed by the committee’s chairman, Rep. James Comer.  She was subpoenaed after Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina and four other Republicans on the committee blindsided their caucus leadership and Ms. Bondi by joining Democrats to demand that she testify under oath and behind closed doors about the Epstein case.

She had hoped to address the committees without having to do so under oath, but Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and others squashed this option. Trump said this about Bondi as he headed to the Supreme Court yesterday to hear arguments on the birthright citizenship case. “Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person, and she is doing a good job.”

Meanwhile, Lee Zeldin, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, has risen to the top among prospective candidates to replace Ms. Bondi. He has been a close ally of the president’s since he represented New York’s 1st Congressional District.
