Crucial Stats

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are coming off a 116-108 win on the road over the Orlando Magic. Alperen Sengun had an outstanding performance with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Jalen Green led the team in scoring with 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while shooting 8/18 from the floor, including 3/11 from downtown. Tari Eason might have been the star of the game. He finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five steals, and one block, all while shooting seven for 10 from the floor. Houston is currently the 2nd-second seed in the Western Conference with a record of 45-25 on the season.

Defensively, the Rockets are one of the best teams in the NBA. For the season, they are ranked 5th in points allowed per game, 4th in opponent field goal percentage, 8th in opponent three-point percentage, 14th in blocks per game, 10th in steals per game, 1st in rebounds per game, and 4th in defensive writing. In terms of injuries, this is a mostly healthy team. Rookie Reed Sheppard is the only player listed out or questionable for this game. Over the last 10 games, Houston has a record of 8-2, including 7-3-0 against the spread.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are in dire need of a win. They’re coming off a heartbreaking loss at home, 116-113, against the Detroit Pistons. Despite the loss, Bam Adebayo was excellent with 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Tyler Herro had a nice game, as well. Herro finished with 29 points while shooting a very efficient 10/20 from the floor. Rookie center Kel’el Ware had a great game with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. With a record of 29-40, Miami sits in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

In regards to their defense, the Heat are an above-average team. They ranked 7th in points allowed per game, 12th in opponent field goal percentage, 13th in opponent three-point percentage, 30th in blocks per game, 18th in steals per game, 23rd in rebounds per game, and 12th in defensive rating. In terms of injuries, outside of Nikola Jovic, this is a fully healthy team over their last 10 games; the Heat have a record of 1-9, including 4-6-0 against the spread. If the Heat can make the postseason, they must finish the season strong.

Prediction

The Houston Rockets will defeat the Miami Heat and cover the five-point spread in this game. This is not a difficult pick. The Miami Heat are on a downward spiral, and the Rockets are on a upward trajectory. This game also means more for Houston as they are only one game ahead of the Denver Nuggets and the Western Conference standings. For a young team, securing a high seed is paramount. I expect Alperen Sengun to dominate a heat team on the second night of a back-to-back. This game will be close throughout, and Houston will pull away with a comfortable win in Miami.
