Pokémon Go is bringing us another 5-star raid event! If you play Pokémon GO, you’re familiar with the game’s ability to keep things fresh for players. For a mobile game launched in 2016, Niantic continues to update the app, providing players with a steady stream of updates, events, and more. The most recent event announced is the return of Tapu Lele to 5-star raids!

About Tapu Lele
Tapu Lele is a Legendary Pokémon from the Alola region. This Pokémon first made its appearance in Pokémon GO in 2019. Tapu Lele is one of the four Guardian Deities of Alola region and is a significant figure in the Pokémon series. It is a Psychic/Fairy-type and is also a Legendary Pokémon. Specifically, Tapu Lele is the guardian deity Pokémon of Akala island.
Other than trading in the Pokémon games Sword and Shield (version 1.30+), you can only obtain Tapu Lele in certain games. Those games and the entries in the Pokédex make up for less fingers than you have on both hands. As for Pokémon entries outside of Pokémon Go, Tapu Lele has entries in the following games:
- Pokémon Sun
- Pokémon Moon
- Pokémon Ultra Sun
- Pokémon Ultra Moon
Only in Raids For a Limited Time
Tapu Lele will only be availble in 5-star raids for a short period of time. Starting Monday, March 31 (10 a.m. your local time) through Wednesday, April 9th (also 10 a.m. your local time), you will be able to catch this Legendary Pokémon. Tapu Lele’s return offers players who missed the original debut in the game an opportunity to catch it and add it to their Pokédex.
Some trainers have already had the opportunity to catch this Pokémon during its initial appearance, while others may have missed out or simply not had the chance to catch it. In Pokémon GO, 5-star raids are a level of challenge that require teamwork. Tapu Lele, being a Legendary Pokémon, presents a tough battle to say the least. Trainers will have to strategize their efforts to win this raid.
Tips for Pokémon Go’s Newest 5-Star Raid
If you are going to participate in this particular 5-star raid, think about which types would be best in battle. Tepu Lele is weak against Poison, Ghost, and Steel-types. Some great choices for this raid battle would be Nihilego, Gengar, Steelix and Registeel! If you do not have these Pokémon, or want to see what other Pokemon will that would fall under these types, just check out Bulbapedia also known as Bulbagarden!
Make sure you pop a Star Piece item before entering this raid! This will increase your Stardust earnings by 50%, to be exact. This lasts for 30 minutes and is definitely worth it when raiding! Since you earn a significant amount of XP during raids, I would also recommend using a Lucky Egg. This doubles your XP earned for 30 minutes. Try to play as many raids as you can, since a shiny version is also available!
Storage and Items!
It’s always a good idea to check your available storage for Pokémon before going to any event. Whether you decide to sort through and clean out some of your Pokémon or choose to purchase an upgrade for storage, making room is important! You never know what you might catch and encounter, or how many of Tapu Lele you may want!
It is also important to inspect your items, especially when it comes to a raid-based event. Potions of any kind are a must! Personally, I would say that Hyper Potions or Max Potions would be the best choice for this type of raid event. Make sure you keep Revives and Max Revives handy too!
Good Luck, Trainers!
Whether you’re going out physically to this event or playing remotely at a nearby location, I wish you the best! Make sure that while researching such a challenging Pokémon, you also enjoy your time playing Pokémon Go! Maybe you will even encounter – and hopefully catch- a shiny Tapu Lele! Happy hunting!
