The St. Paul Saints are off to a heavenly start to their 2025 season. Not only are they 2-1 but they have only surrendered two runs this season. They opened their season with a 11-0 rout of the Indianapolis Indians at CHS Field. The team followed that up with a 5-0 road win over the Columbus Clippers. But they lost a close one to Columbus the next night by a score of 2-0
If fact, besides that last game, the only thing that has stopped the Saints so far this season is Mother Nature. After their opening night win against Indianapolis, their next two games were canceled due to inclement weather, including a snowstorm last Saturday night. Then after their first two games in Columbus, the skies opened up again and caused another postponement. Let’s take a closer look at their season so far and highlight some upcoming Saint’s attractions.
Saints Come Out Swinging
In their 11-0 demolition of the Indians, the Saints cranked out 18 his including five extra base hits. And eight of nine Saints starters registered multiple hits in the game. Leading the way for St. Paul was the Minnesota Twins’ #2 prospect, outfielder Emmanuel Rodriguez. Rodriquez was 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Catcher Jair Camargo was also on fire going 3-5 with two RBI and two doubles.
Close behind was second baseman Jeferson Morales with two hits and three runs batted in. Also having a big night was shortstop Ryan Fitgerald who drove in two runs and #3 Twins’ prospect DH Luke Keaschall who contributed two hits.
Starter David Festa with his experience with the big club in 2024 was magnificent retiring the first eight men he faced and going five innings giving up three hits, no walks, and striking out four. Scott Blewett and two other receivers followed Festa and threw shutout ball, while striking out five Indianapolis batters.
Saints Go 2-0 as Matthews Dominates
After two home rain outs, the Saints started their first road series of the season with a solid 5-0 win over the Clippers. Zebby Matthews, coming off his stint with the Twins last season was dominant. He went five innings, surrendered only one run and walked no one. He added four K’s to his shiny total. Travis Adams and Anthony Misiewicz followed Matthews with four innings of scoreless baseball and five strikeouts.
Hitting stars were Camargo who drove in two runs with a first inning single and first baseman Mike Ford who hit his first home run of the season; a solo shot in the third. Left fielder Austin Martin contributed two hits as did third baseman Armando Alvarez.
And the Saints made some history that night. For the first time in franchise history, they recorded back-to-back shutouts.
Columbus Earns a Win
The Saints two-game win streak was snapped as they fell 2-0 to the Clippers. #9 ranked Twins’ prospect Andrew Morris scattered five hits and one walk while striking out four in five innings pitched. Reliever Jacob Bosiokovic was charged with two earned runs in his one and a third innings of work and took the loss. And the Saints were unable to push any runs across the plate.
Right fielder Carson McCusker and Morales each contributed two hits to the Saints cause, but the rest of the team could only muster three more in the game. The team did push their season starting shutout innings streak to 25 before the Clippers broke through with their two runs in the eighth.

The two teams play a double-header in Columbus tonight. First game starts at 4:05 pm CDT. The Saints return home Tuesday night to play the Omaha Storm Chasers at CHS Field in a 6:37 pm CDT start.
