If you were patiently waiting for the most anticipated video game to be released to the public, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Rockstar has announced that GTA VI is expected to be released on May 26th, 2026. The Grand Theft Auto franchise has taken off since the release of GTA III for the PS2 in 2001. Rockstar followed up on the success of Vice City and San Andreas. The latest rendition of the game, Grand Theft Auto V, currently sits second best of all time in video game sales, only behind Minecraft. Will the 6th live up to the hype?
What Should Fans Expect for GTA VI?

Grand Theft Auto V proved it was one of the most popular video games ever. The follow-up will be returning to its Miami-inspired, Vice City in 2026. It will be 13 years between the release of the two games, but that’s not the only time change we will see. The original GTA Vice City’s timeline occurred in 1986, where we saw Tommy Vercetti running the streets.
Now we jump to the present-day Vice City. The fast-paced look and feel, and the vibrant nightlife make the trailer look sick. Gamers will also play a female lead character for the first time in the franchise’s history. On top of that, we are expected to have the most extensive map in the game’s history!
Rockstar has released the following statement regarding the release of the game:
“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the
game. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”
Final Thoughts
It would be surprising if GTA VI didn’t break all video game records or at least come close. The endless possibilities of the open world of Vice City and the online play will have gamers engaged for years. Hell, it took 13 years between the previous version and this one. So I would expect the same with VI.
Gamers will be entertained for the next decade. May 2026 can’t come soon enough. Who isn’t ready to do some extreme heists? So if you have had the urge to entertain a virtual street walker, then commit a crime to get your money back, you’ll have to wait a little longer! Based on Rockstar’s track record, it should be worth the wait!
