Crucial Stats

Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are one of the best teams in the MLB this season. They sit on top of the AL Central with a league’s best record of 31-17, unlike the Colorado Rockies. Detroit has one of the best offenses in the MLB. They rank 4th in runs scored, 5th in OPS, 6th in BA, 6th in total bases, and 7th in home runs. Over their last ten games, the Tigers have a record of 6-4, including a 14-12 on the road.

Defensively, the Tigers are one of the better teams in the league. For the season, they rank 8th in runs allowed 10th in OPSA, 7th in BAA, 9th in total bases allowed, and 9th in errors. The Cy Young winning pitcher, Tarik Skubal, is expected to take the mound for Detroit. Despite his shaky start, Skubal has been great the past four starts. Over that stretch, he’s gone at least six innings in every game, giving up one or less in three of the starts, and has 44 Ks.

In regard to injuries and who’s hot, catcher Jake Rogers is dealing with left oblique tightness and has been out for the past two weeks. First Baseman Spencer Torkelson leads the team in Home Runs and RBIs. Kerry Carpenter leads the team in BA, and Riley Greene leads the team in hits.

St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals have had a nice season thus far. With a record of 27-21, the Cardinals sit in 2nd place in the NL Central. Offensively, they do everything above average except hit the ball out of the park. They are ranked 7th in runs scored, 7th in OPS, 2nd in BA, 8th in total bases, and 19th in home runs. Over their last ten games, St. Louis has a record of 8-2, including 16-6 at home.

Defensively, the Cardinals are a solid team. They are ranked 11th in runs allowed 9th in OPSA, 12th in BAA, 8th in total bases allowed, and 1st in errors. Erick Fedde is expected to take the mound in this game. He has seen success against this Tigers’ lineup, a .227 BA, 10/44, 10 Ks, and three home runs.

This is an entirely healthy Cardinals team regarding injuries. Who’s got the hot bat? Second Baseman Brendan Donovan leads the team in BA, OBP, and hits, Lars Nootbaar leads the team with seven home runs, and Willson Contreras leads the team in RBIs. If this team can stay healthy, they have the talent and pitching to be a contender in the playoffs.

Prediction

The Detroit Tigers will win this game and cover the 1.5-run spread in this game. It’s straightforward. If Skubal is on the mound, bet on the Tigers. He is, in my opinion, the best pitcher in baseball. I believe that Detroit is in a great bounce-back spot as well. They got destroyed yesterday, and Skubal will do his magic as the Tigers cruise to a multi-run win.
