Matthew Lee Johnson, Nancy Harris, murder

Today marks 13 long years since Matthew Lee Johnson committed horrendous acts in Texas against an elderly woman. That woman was Nancy Judith Harris, a grandmother who clocked in for work, not knowing that she would be the victim of a robbery and then set on fire. On May 20, 2012, Johnson walked into Harris’ place of work, a convenience store, and proceeded to pour lighter fluid on her head. He took two lighters off a display, lit her on fire, and also took a ring off Harris’s finger. Johnson left the store with cash from the register, two packs of cigarettes, and candy.

Matthew Lee Johnson’s Convictions & Execution

Johnson had filed several previous requests to stay his upcoming execution, which were denied. He has been condemned for the 2012 death of 76-year-old Nancy Harris. In 2013, Johnson was convicted of capital murder. He has ultimately received the death penalty in Texas.

Some Media outlets witnessing Matthew Lee Johnson’s execution tonight at 6 p.m. CT include the Associated Press, Huntsville Item, and The Dallas Morning News, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told USA TODAY. Some of Harris’ family will also be there for the execution, in person, as well.

Justice Overdue, But Served

Harris was a very well known figure in the community, and a loving Grandmother. She was a Cowboys fan, and her family loved her just as much as she loved them. Harris has left behind four sons when she passed,  John, Bryan, Scot and Chris. Bryan passed away at 64 earlier this year in February. She also has three granddaughters, Lorelai, Hannah and Olivia Harris. While it has been 13 years, justice will finally be served tonight, and her family is ready for it all to be over.
