The Baltimore Ravens have signed former All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. The 28-year-old DB spent the last seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He was released by the team this past offseason. With Alexander having a new home in Charm City, let’s dive into his signing and find out if it’s a good fit or not!
Jaire Alexander to the Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are signing Alexander to a one-year deal for $4 million. He can earn up to $2 million more in incentives, bringing his total to a maximum of $6 million. For a former two-time second-team All-Pro, that is a steal for Baltimore. In his seven seasons with the Packers, he recorded 70 pass deflections and 12 interceptions while allowing an 83.4 QBR when targeted and a 57.8 completion percentage—a great pickup on face value.
Any Red Flags?
When he’s on the field, Alexander is still an above-average corner in the NFL. It’s a blessing and a curse. His best ability is availability, and he has been remarkably absent over the past few seasons. Out of the last four seasons, he has only played in 34 out of the possible 67 games. He was great for the Packers, but only when he was on the field. He missed games due to back and shoulder injuries, as well as a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Then, Alexander suffered a groin injury, followed by a knee injury (PCL tear) that ended his 2024 season.
Fit and Final Thoughts
I believe this is an excellent signing for a position of need for the Ravens. Last season, they were 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (244.1). That is dreadful for a team that is looking to make another deep playoff run and break through to the Super Bowl for the first time in the Lamar Jackson era. With Jackson in his prime, Baltimore will always be in the mix.
With the NFL season kicking off in 78 days, any news is just a tease, haha. I want to hear from you. Do you think the signing of Alexander elevates them ahead of the Buffalo Bills and puts them in the class of the Chiefs? How will he look in the purple and black?
