The moves keep moving! The Los Angeles Clippers are trading away one of their cornerstone players, Norman Powell, to the Miami Heat! This is a shocker, considering what they got back. Additionally, a third team is involved. Who all got moved, and who’s the third team? Let’s jump straight into the trade.
LA Clippers Part of the Trade
The Los Angeles Clippers are moving on from one of their key players over the past four seasons. Norman Powell has been a steady role player with LA ever since leaving the Portland Trail Blazers back in 2022. Powell averaged 17.4 ppg on 48%, 42%, and 82% shooting splits. He has been a streaky pure scorer in LA, and he’s going to the Miami Heat!
Miami’s Heating Up
If the Heat are acquiring Powell in this deal, what are they giving up? Miami is sending Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson, and a 2027 second-round pick out to make this deal happen. Losing a veteran player like K-Love will be noticeable in the locker room. Anderson has been a nice, long-wing defender who can stretch the floor and is known for his high basketball IQ. However, where are they going?
What in Utah?
That’s right! The Utah Jazz had to get in on this deal, mostly to make salaries work, but still. They are sending John Collins to the Los Angeles Clippers and getting Love, Anderson, and the second-round pick. It’s interesting to see when specific teams get involved in helping trades get pushed through and funnel players to more desirable destinations.
Is This a Good Trade?
For the Clippers, this is a great trade. Yes, you move off a borderline 20-point scorer on any given night. However, you gain an athletic big who should feast off a James Harden Pick-and-Roll. For Miami, it’s a solid trade. You get a pure scorer in Powell who can help take some of the stress off Tyler Herro in orchestrating the offense. For the Jazz, they get off Collins’ contract and pick up some expiring ones to clear money for future years.
Final Thoughts
This is a good trade for all teams involved. This offseason has been a busy one, and there are more dominoes to fall.
