The biggest party of the summer got even bigger this year! For the first time in history, WWE’s SummerSlam will be a two-night event. The card is stacked from top to bottom at a WrestleMania-type level. The August PLE is one of the “big four” for WWE and is one of the longest-running events for the promotion. There are plenty of intriguing storylines and big matches set for the weekend-long event. There are so many directions that creatives can go with some of these stories, but what would be best for business? Here are five things that need to happen at the annual summer block party.
The Wyatt Sicks Must Retain at SummerSlam
The Wyatt Sicks had one of the best, most intriguing, and unique debuts almost exactly one year ago. They caused mass destruction in a way WWE had never seen before. Since their iconic debut, they have fallen flat. Injuries have played a part in the lack of storyline and appearances, but they have been able to capture the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. They have put the tag team division on notice and must continue to do so.
They find themselves with a handful, defending their championships in a six-team TLC match at SummerSlam. The Street Profits, DIY, FRAXIOM, Fenix and Andrade, and the Motorcity Machine Guns will challenge the Wyatts. The Sicks need to retain their titles in this match to continue their dominance in the division. A drop in the titles could kill whatever momentum they have, again! I still have hope for this group to do great things, but they need some destruction under their belts.
The Judgement Day Should Retain the Women’s Tag Titles
If the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles aren’t cursed, then I may have to look up the definition again! The devastating injury to Liv Morgan put The Judgement Day in an interesting predicament. Roxanne Perez has not only stepped in to team with Raquel Rodriguez as champion, but she has also had a twinkle in her eye as she gets closer to the ladies’ man, “Dirty” Dom Mysterio.
With The Judgement Day retaining at SummerSlam against the “frenemies,” Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, it allows the turmoil inside the clubhouse to unfold. If they keep the titles, it would allow the creative to have Liv return when healthy and instantly have a feud with Roxanne. Roxanne could play the role Liv once did with Rhea Ripley, stealing her man and her title. This could lead up to Morgan teaming up with Ripley as Dom’s exes versus Dom’s current and Raquel. This is the storyline the WWE Universe deserves!
Reed and Breakker Need to Cause Chaos
The newly formed group that has everyone in the WWE Universe talking is Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker with the “Oracle” Paul Heyman. The recent injury to Mr. Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins, has put a dent in the group’s development. Although they have to shift plans a bit, at SummerSlam, they should continue to have this duo destroy everything in their path. It’s too early for the group to lose, and going over in a match against the “OTC” Roman Reigns and “Main Event” Jey Uso would keep the momentum for this group to continue to grow.
Not only should Reed and Breakker win this match, but I would love to see another member join. Get a fifth member (if we’re counting Heyman), and let them make an example out of Reigns and Uso. Many in the wrestling community think Breakker and Reigns are a future WrestleMania main event, so why not elevate Bron onto that level sooner rather than later?
CM Punk Wins Title at SummerSlam
As we have seen in the clips from the Netflix series WWE Unreal, the creative team was heavy on CM Punk winning the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble. We all know that spot went to the shocking Jey Uso. I think it’s time for Punk to finally capture a championship. He returned “home” to the WWE at Survivor Series 2023 and has yet to hold a title. The “Best in the World” will take on the “Ring General” Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Gunther has had an impressive main roster run with his historic Intercontinental Championship reign and being a two-time Heavyweight Champion. After his most recent defense against Goldberg, the “Ring General” will take on yet another future Hall of Famer at SummerSlam. Punk should get an opportunity at a championship run. The fans have waited for this moment for over ten years, and it’s WWE’s chance to give it to them!
John Cena Must Continue Farewell Tour as Champion
We all know by now “the last time is now,” and John Cena will be hanging up his wrestling sneakers. Cena has threatened to leave WWE as the last real champion with the belt, and the creative team should let this play out. At SummerSlam, he will be defending his 17th championship against the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes. Rhodes was the one to beat the longest title reign in modern history at last year’s WrestleMania versus Roman Reigns. He had also won back-to-back Royal Rumbles in 2023 and 2024. Not to mention, he also won the 2025 King of the Ring Tournament to position himself against Cena this weekend.
Do you remember before the Tribal Chief graced our presence, the “Big Dog” Roman Reigns was being shoved down the WWE Universe’s throat? I feel like that now towards Rhodes. The guy continues to be the chosen one, to the point it’s starting to seem like overkill. Cena needs to win this Street Fight. The 17-time champion must continue to threaten the fans of leaving with the title come December. This also sets up the perfect scenario for Cena to win his last match as champion, thinking he is leaving with the title, and a Seth Rollins epic cash-in for the second time! Cena winning would cap off a great 2025 two-night SummerSlam!
Final Thoughts
This is one of the biggest SummerSlam’s in WWE history! So much could happen, and I hope it lives up to the hype. This is a great opportunity to keep people engaged with intriguing storylines. I know with recent rumors about a falling out between Travis Scott and WWE, it could be far-fetched, but what if that was a work as well? What if we get involved with Scott or the “Final Boss,” The Rock, in the street fight between Rhodes and Cena? They say anything can happen in the WWE, and I hope it does this year at the biggest party of the summer, SummerSlam!
