Weapons, Pedro Pascal, The Fantastic Four

Moviegoing audiences, perhaps illogically, have complained lately about Pedro Pascal fatigue. 2025 has absolutely been his breakout year, at least in terms of sheer volume. One could argue he’s a bona fide superstar by now, but this has definitely been the year with the most exposure. He was on The Last of Us before three huge movies hit theaters with him in at least a semi-starring role in the last few months. It was almost four movies.

Pedro Pascal was Almost in Another Massive Blockbuster Right Now

Pedro Pascal is currently dominating the film space. He had two movies come out within a week, and a third predated them by a couple of months. A fourth was almost in the mix. Before it starred Josh Brolin, Weapons from Zach Cregger had Pascal attached before some things got in the way.

The cast is now very different than it was supposed to be back in 2023 when things were first coming together. “And then we had the strike, and then Pedro Pascal’s schedule threw us into turmoil,” Cregger said via IGN. “I had to recast the entire movie.” After the strike, Pascal had The Last of Us and The Fantastic Four: First Steps conflict with Weapons.

The original cast was Pascal, Brian Tyree Henry, Renate Reinsve, and Austin Abrams. Now, it’s Brolin, Julia Garner (who is also in The Fantastic Four: First Steps with Pascal), Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong. “This is what happens, right?” the Barbarian director said. “The strikes delayed us, and then when you delay, people’s schedules get conflicts, and then you’re back at square one. I bear no ill will towards anybody. We just kept getting delayed and delayed. It’s like a domino effect. So I had to start over again.”

Is Pedro Pascal in Too Many Things?

It certainly seems like Pedro Pascal is everywhere you look these days. Though only in a part-time role, he was a central figure during spring’s big hit, The Last of Us Season 2. Not long after, The Materialists from Celine Song came out. Then, when summer arrived, he was literally in consecutive movies, Eddington on July 18 and The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25.

People have complained about him being in too many things, which is only the latest arm of a lengthy argument that Hollywood seems to cast the same people in everything. Paul Mescal, Timothee Chalamet, Joseph Quinn, and others have recently come under with this absolutely nonsensical take.

Pascal is in a lot of things, but that’s good. Every actor’s goal is to become that good and that desirable. Obviously, everyone wants the Joel Miller actor to be in their projects, which is indicative of popularity and quality, two things every working actor dreams of having. He has reached the goal of every person who struggled to find a way forward for a long time in Hollywood.

Second, it’s just a coincidence that he is in “everything” this year, or that Chalamet was all over the screen in 2024. For one thing, complaining about that means you’ve not watched enough movies. I have seen 22 new movies this year, which is not a lot at all. Pascal is in two of them (I haven’t seen The Materialists yet).

It’s also a rare instance for something like this to happen. The Materialists, Eddington, and The Fantastic Four did not all film at the same time, and they were not all expected to release near the same time when first being produced. Marvel movies typically have release dates set well in advance, but they’ve been delayed, and other movies typically don’t follow that same timeline. It just so happens that Pascal worked on three movies that ended up released around now.

Conclusion

It’s silly to complain about an actor getting work. We don’t complain that businessmen are working five days a week and sometimes more. We don’t complain about seeing the same waiter at our favorite restaurants, so stop complaining that an actor, especially a good one, is in a lot. It would be different if he was a bad actor who somehow got roles he didn’t deserve, but he’s nailed pretty much all of it and is one of the most talented actors today.
