Grounded 2 hit early access on Steam back on Jul 29, 2025. It has been out for less than 3 weeks as of today. Grounded 2 is the new game coming from Obsidian Games after the success of the Grounded. Here we will look at Grounded 2 in its current state and what has been released for the game. Spoiler warning if you intend to read this article, you have been warned!
Grounded 2 Early Access Story and Available Content
I won’t go into details, just talk as briefly as I can about the story. The story of Grounded 2, so far, has been interesting to say the least. Following the first story, it continues after the children and the professor successfully embiggened themselves to get out of the backyard with the help of BURG-L.
After Tully’s attack on BURG-L during the ceremony, you find yourself shrunk again, but in the headquarters on Ominent. You are in the public park of Brookhollow Park. You are set to survive in the wilderness, for unknown reasons, while being attacked by O.R.C. Insects, but with a new enemy.
This new enemy is a controller of the O.R.C. Insects. A female voice comes over a radio from the Omni-Glove we get at the beginning, after she hacked through every firewall to control all of Ominent’s facilities. You arrive to find out she is the sole reason Ominent is in complete chaos, with the head asking for your help and, well, begging for your help.
Afterward, you find BURG.L is being held captive by the mysterious woman and, again, for unknown reasons. This enemy attacks you in various waves of small raids that happen every several days to “test your skills.” She is a bit hotheaded and, gets upset when you get in her way.
Your sole objective in Grounded 2 is to survive, build up your arsenal, find BURG.L and discover why you are shrunk back down. We find the teens relatively grown up, and this is long after they were brought back to normal size. We learn they lived a life for a bit before it all happened again, and that Ominent was spying on them. We don’t learn more, but we do end up meeting the mysterious voice.
From what it looks like, she is a teen just like us, but under the assumption that the Professor is a good person. She fights us with both a Coaltana and a Wolf Spider. After fighting, she reveals that she had gotten all of her info needed from BURG.L and then leaves to find the professor.
Story Review
There is no hate for the current story in Grounded 2. It’s interesting and I want to know who the real enemy is, the Hacker or Ominent? This could be a classic case of the wolf wearing sheep’s clothing, with Ominent and the Hacker trying to stop them. Or the Hacker is actually doing something devious, and Ominent is in the right.
The story is currently on pause, and we don’t know exactly WHEN Obsidian Games will update it in their future road map. We just know it’s sometime this Winter if anything. But as to be expected with an Early Access game, it doesn’t fulfill the entire story and leaves much to still be discovered.
Bugs and Possible Fixes

Early Access doesn’t come without its own bugs and Grounded 2 isn’t special enough to avoid them. While fighting the in-game bugs, you are fighting the development the bugs. Some of which are funny and irritating. One funny bug I have come across is a Scorpion tossing itself into the stratosphere after digging underground to attack. Others include unstable bugs, some invisible ones, and also invincible bugs. I have fallen through the world, experienced issues where the world wasn’t loading properly at times, and the bugs get stuck in rocks.
I haven’t had many issues where “this needs to be fixed.” Except for one. Buggies. Buggies are a new mechanic introduced, where you grab an egg from an insect and hatch it, and it becomes a “buggy.” You can ride it, it can help you craft your base, and you can ride it and carry materials in its inventory and also carry stems to assist. There are currently two buggies in Grounded 2: Red Soldier Ant and the Orb Weaver Spider.
Now, it’s a completely awesome mechanic, but if I could ask for anything to be fixed, they need to back up. The buggies get extremely close when you pick up items, as if they sense you are picking something up and want “help.” And when they do, you can misclick and ride the Buggy. Same thing when cutting down anything on foot, while the buggy can help and makes it easier. They can only help with cutting at the moment.
The Road Ahead
Obsidian has a lot of work to do, but again, it’s an early access game. Obsidian has done well in the past, and the game has a bright future as long as they listen to player feedback. As with most gameplay issues/enhancements, I would ask for them to be planned for specific future updates as opposed to saying later in the year to next year.
