I know what you’re thinking. I’m not going to watch the Twins after they cut the payroll by $30 million after the 2023 playoff season. Or these bum owners who dispatched 11 players at the trade deadline including one of their two best players and their top arms in the bullpen. And I’m certainly not going to a game after the Pohlad family promised for a year that they would sell the team to an owner that would spend the money to produce a winning team, only to turn around and renege on the deal. Not me. Not in a million years.
So, as hopeless as the Twins’ situation looks, I have found reasons to support this team during the last month of the season. Not the thrill of a pennant race or the chance to see a historical record being broken. My reasons are the promise of hope and the sheer beauty and fun of the game.
10 Reasons to See the Youthful Twins in September
10. On September 2, in a game against the Chicago White Sox, the Twins are hosting their second Bark at the Park promotion of the season. Take your trusty dog to the park where the two of you can split a hot dog and a beer. Oh. Don’t forget the pooper scooper.
9. You get a double treat when you attend the Twins games against the Cleveland Guardians on September 20. You could attend both games of the doubleheader and enjoy a beautiful fall day at Target Field. And if you attend the second game that day, you will receive a Fan Appreciation Day baseball hat.
8. Take a road trip to Kansas City on the weekend of September 5 to watch the Twins take on the Kansas City Royals. You’ll get a chance to see the Royals young superstar shortstop Bobby Witt and experience baseball the way it should be viewed, in one of the most historic, fan-friendly ballparks ever built. However, enjoy Kauffman Stadium while you can. The Royals’ ownership has threatened a move to Kansas City, Kansas, when their current stadium lease is up in 2031.
7. The Yankees are coming to town on September 15 to play a three-game series against our Twins. There are always two great reasons to watch the Yankees play. One is to see superstar Aaron Judge hit some tape mark, historic Dingers. And many people in Twinsland and elsewhere love to hate the Bronx Bombers, so it will be your last chance in 2025 to get in a good heckle or two.
6. Starting pitcher Pablo Lopez is returning to the team next month, and kudos to him for returning to a team with zero playoff chances. Heart of a lion and a fantastic clubhouse presence. Pretty awesome pitcher to boot.
5. For all of you female fans, September 4 is your day at the ballpark. The Twins’ promotion that day is Wine, Women & Baseball. Catch the Minnesota game against the White Sox and treat yourself with a wine tasting, appetizers, desserts, and a Twins swag bag. This pregame hospitality event is at the Keeper’s Heart Tavern in Target Field. This event is sold out, but maybe you know a friend with an extra ticket, and you could bum along.
4. Make September 16 a double Minnesota Sports day. Take in the Minnesota Lynx game against their archrivals, the New York Liberty, at 1 pm at Target Center. Then eat dinner downtown and head to Target Field to watch your Twins play the dreaded Yankees.
3. When was the last time you took your kid to a ballgame. The Sunday, September 14th game is Kids Day at Target Field. The kids can enjoy interactive games and activities and eat a scrumptious kids’ meal. And after the game, run the bases like the Minnesota Twins do. No children of your own. No problem. Simply borrow a nephew or niece or some friend’s kid. Everyone will thank you for it.
2. Come out and see all of the young talent on display at Target Field. Head to the ballpark and cheer on Royce Lewis, Brooks Lee, Luke Keaschall, Mick Abel, Zebby Matthews, and, of course, old favorites, Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan. There is still plenty of major league talent on this Twins team.
1. And the number one reason to see the youthful Minnesota Twins in September. Because you love the game of baseball, and a day at the ballpark is still much better than a day at work.
