That seems like a haul; however, if you believe Micah is one of the best defensive players in the NFL for the foreseeable future, you make this deal.

Not only did Green Bay trade for the superstar linebacker, but you might as well call them the “Green Bay Parsons” with the contract they gave him. Parsons signed a four-year $188 million contract with $136 million guaranteed. With an average of $47 million per year, that makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, surpassing TJ Watt. That is a lot of cheddar for the cheeseheads.

For as talented as Parsons is, the Dallas Cowboys won this trade. You get cheaper on defense and acquire two future assets. For a team in a “soft rebuild,” this makes perfect sense. Like many other teams in their position, they aren’t good enough to make and win the Super Bowl, but they aren’t bad enough to have a top five pick. Gathering assets is the best way to do one of the hardest things in all of sports: being competitive and rebuilding.
