Venom was a fan favorite antagonist in Spider-Man 2 from 2023, a game that earned a Game of the Year nomination and took home other hardware. He was briefly playable in a section that allowed players to break him out and set up the final confrontation between the villain and the two Spider-Men. That naturally sparked rumors of a spin-off, similar to the Miles Morales spin-off that came between the first and second Spider-Man, that eventually died out.

Insomniac, the developer of those three games and the upcoming Wolverine game, got hacked and the hackers leaked everything, which set the company back significantly. They’re still recovering, and the natural assumption was that that rumored Venom game just wasn’t actually happening. However, a new report suggests that it actually is still going to come out eventually.

A new report from MP1st, which has been shared by other outlets like The Gamer, ComicBook, and more, suggests that the Wolverine game is coming in 2026 after all, which is big news in and of itself, and that the Venom game is coming. It remains in development, but it is in development nonetheless. They also indicated that Eddie Brock would be the next host for the symbiote.

This makes sense since Harry Osborn and Peter Parker were the two hosts in Spider-Man 2. The symbiote was used to cure Harry of a degenerative disease, but it was obviously causing harm. It then attached to Peter before he shed it, which sent it back to Harry in the form of Venom and not Agent Venom this time. New York was then taken over by symbiotes. Regardless, Harry can’t be the host again, and Eddie Brock is the main host in the comics and most other media.

The Classic Character Will Return

The report suggests that Venom will have a comic book design and look more like the pages and not the big screen, so don’t expect the Tom Hardy version of the character to show up. Additionally, it is rumored that Carnage will be the main villain. This also makes sense since Carnage is a worse, more dangerous symbiote, but it’s also hugely significant.

Carnage was clearly teased in a side plot in Spider-Man 2, and it seemed as if he would either be a main villain in Spider-Man 3 or in a spin-off of his own. Now, it seems as if he’s going to be taking the spin-off route, which also indicates that Insomniac always planned to spin off into a game for the symbiote antihero. Anti-Venom, which appeared in Spider-Man 2 to help Peter defeat his friend, will also return, just not with Peter.

To top it all off, the report also noted that they uncovered some details about Spider-Man 2099 being involved. The hack of Insomniac also revealed a cancelled Spider-Verse game, so Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O’Hara, would make sense there. It’s possible that the cancelled game is back on in some capacity if O’Hara’s Spider-Man is still present in some way. We don’t know, aside from the Wolverine game, when any of this is supposed to happen.

Conclusion

It’s vital to note that this is essentially a leak, and not a confirmed report. Until Insomniac confirms the individual reveals in this report, it’s all speculative. It’s probably going to be a while before that happens as well, so take the information with a grain of salt. That said, this is exciting news for fans of Marvel video games and those who were hoping Insomniac would make this very spin-off after the level in which Venom was playable.
