Have you ever enjoyed Sea of Thieves? A pirate game where you sail on the open waters, hunting for bounties, gold, and the PvPvE? Well, have you ever been like me and wished there was no PvP? Jump Space is a new game that has introduced just that. It’s a sandbox, roguelike, space game where you go out into well… space and fight AI Robot Legions to try and find other survivors and to make a name for yourself.
Jump Space – What is it?
Jump Space is an FPS game from Keepsake Games in space where you can team up with up to 4 players. Its co-op-focused meaning means you are meant to survive against AI in PvE gameplay. Jump Space is in a time where Robot Legions have taken over and have practically wiped out humanity. With the robots betraying humanity, everyone is against trusting them. You wake up to the sound of a robotic voice helping you, Iris, a Helmsman Core from a broken-down ship. We save them to save ourselves and to fly to an outpost of humans.
Jump Space Gameplay

While it is a focus on co-op, you are more than welcome to go at it solo. The game will give you a buddy robot that will be everything you need in a partner in space. Buddy will help you shoot, repair, fight, and assist in taking things back to the ship. Speaking of the Ship, while you are out in space, you will have to take care of your ship; upgrade, maintain, and repair, as you will face resistance that will both raid and attack your ship as you go through enemy-infested areas.
At the outpost, you will choose a mission that can come in a variety of difficulties and special challenges. The missions all have their special events, from more enemies and quieter space to asteroid showers pelting your ship constantly. Once you start a mission at the outpost, you will see a roguelike-like path of objectives. You can choose to go forward where you want to go, but you can’t go backwards.

Here, you will choose nodes, and the nodes can vary from picking up scraps to invading a stronghold and taking out a lot of enemies. There are unique artifacts that you can find in the missions that, during the run, you can slot into your ship and give you buffs to survive the fights ahead. It’s a fun blend of PvE co-op with a bit of roguelike elements that can make or break a run, but even more so, cause a unique run.
They have a roadmap in place right now, almost leading up to a 1.0 release that will add more features as they move forward. Jump Space is currently in Early Access, so issues are likely to be present, and some features may be missing. However, it seems that they will be listening to feedback as they plan ahead. So far, it’s been a blast to play, no pun intended, especially with friends and in challenging solo mode. In a pile of what feels like ‘hidden gems’, Jump Space was enjoyable since its beta release and continues to be addictive.
As of right now, there are multiple areas, missions, and difficulties that can keep you busy for a while; however, not for long, but more will come. With the game being released on the 19th, it’s still very new and is already sitting on Very Positive on Steam. It has an Xbox version as well, with no known PlayStation coming out at the moment, but things can change. It is currently out for $19.99.
