Hollow Knight: Silksong may not have won Game of the Year, but it arguably was the game of the moment in 2025. After six long years following the announcement and nine years since the release of the first game, Silksong finally got released, and it took the gaming world by storm. It earned five nominations at the Game Awards and came away with the Best Action/Adventure award.
But the success isn’t stopping there. While it is going to be a long time before the notoriously small development team makes something else, Team Cherry has confirmed that there’s more Silksong on the way in the form of an exciting, new, and best of all, free DLC.
Silksong Getting New DLC Next Year

Over seven million players have purchased a copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong since its launch at the beginning of September, and millions more have taken advantage (myself included, with 84 hours logged now) of the game’s inclusion on Xbox Game Pass.
In celebrating that fact, Team Cherry confirmed that a free DLC is coming out in 2026. They’re keeping details pretty scarce, but the devs have confirmed that new areas, bosses (how could there not be), and tools are going to be added in the free content update. They’ll confirm more shortly before Sea of Sorrow officially drops.
Sea of Sorrow hints at more of Hornet’s journey, this time through “salt-stricken seas.” The trailer does not show even a single ounce of gameplay, nor a bit of story. It’s just a brief teaser showcasing the water and confirming that it’ll be available for all players in 2026. We do not know exactly when in 2026, though.
It is highly likely that you can expect more of the same with this DLC: challenging and sometimes nearly impossible boss fights, epic platforming sections, fun tools, and a great story. Oh, and the art style will remain brilliant. Otherwise, there’s no telling what the developers have cooked up this time.
The original Hollow Knight ended up with four different free DLC content updates, and while it’s unclear what Team Cherry has up its sleeve for the future of this game, franchise, and their developments, it is possible that Sea of Sorrow is just the first of many DLCs to come.
Team Cherry Has More Planned
Sea of Sorrow isn’t the only thing coming soon to the Hollow Knight franchise. The original game, which has become one of the most beloved indie titles of all time, is getting an updated version for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is also launching in 2026 with high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and many additional graphical effects that the team has been working on.
Furthermore, those into the video game collectible world will be pleased to hear about some official collectibles coming out in the near future. You can get an officially licensed minifigure for:
- Hornet
- Flea
- Trobbio
- Garmond and Zaza
- Lace
- Phantom
- Shakra
- Sherma
All of these come in a package for $120, though you can get it for $112 if you pre-order now. Each one individually costs $15. There’s never been a better time to be a fan of this game series.
Conclusion
Devoted fans of Hollow Knight waited a painstaking amount of time for the sequel, but it arrived and delivered in a big way in 2025. Now, 2026 could be even bigger for Silksong with at least one DLC, not to mention the new figurines and the Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. For a smaller indie franchise, this series and Team Cherry are doing phenomenally well right now.
