It’s time for your next vacation, or maybe you’re ready to move states. Reddit reviews can be helpful, TravelTok is a thing, but if you want to visit (or stay) at a destination that is tailored to you, consider astrocartography. Astrocartography originated in the 1970s and is the practice of using your astrological birth chart to determine where to travel or relocate. It’s used as a guide to assist with travel, comfort, and whatever else you’re looking for in life based on the stars.
Leaving My Moon Line
When I moved to Chicago, I was leaving my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, after COVID-19 and the end of a relationship. I had secured a good-paying writing gig and was ready to add Chicago to my list of major cities to move to. My intention was to start over and continue my journey towards a Carrie Bradshaw life. I wasn’t entirely wrong. I got paid well as a writer in the Windy City, I gained an active social life after starting a popular writing group, and Chicago’s thrift scene helped me look good on a budget. However, what I wasn’t prepared for was living on my moon line.

Your moon line represents everything under the moon in astrocartography. Changing phases, emotions, family, new perspectives, and shadows. The moon line is great for people who want to settle down and start a family. It offers the stability needed to take on one of life’s great feats. However, being the representative of all things emotional, the moon line will also test your emotional stability and will chip away at you like a chisel to stone. This is important when considering basing a move off of the moon line in astrocartography.
Therapy and facing the skeletons in your closet are also prominent on your moon. Especially if your birth chart is heavy in Cancer placements (since the moon is Cancer’s ruling celestial body). I did find a sense of home and community in Chicago, but the idea of spending another literal and internal Winter Solstice in the city made it seem less attractive to me as a forever home. Although emotional work was necessary, three years in the dark made me yearn for a different sort of energy elsewhere.
Arriving at My Venus Line
The planet Venus is all about love, beauty, culture, pleasure, and art. When I decided to leave Chicago, I used astrocartography to scope out which city could be my potential destination. I had already decided to leave the country, but where was I going, and what did I want there? My Venus runs right through northeastern Brazil and crosses Recife. A beach town on the coast known for its eclectic culture and indescribable Carnval (Carnival), and the many colonial architectures that still stand in the city today.
My gray cubicle in Chicago simply couldn’t compare to the color and heat. I felt like I was defrosting for the first time in three years. It was perfect. I experienced my first carnaval in the Reef City. I danced with every nordestino I made eye contact with, and soaked in the sun at the beach. Portuguese is a difficult language, but I found myself learning it faster than I expected.
I also bought my first portrait painting from a talented Pernambuco artist, and it hangs proudly in my home today. I didn’t know if Brazil would become my home, but I knew it had potential. I moved to Olinda, a neighboring city, shortly after, and I’ve been writing, indulging, and living ever since.
It Depends On Your Chart
Astrocartography looks different for everyone based on their chart. As a Cancer sun, moon, and rising, living on my moon line proved to be a little much in the emotion department. However, if your moon is in Taurus, it’s considered “exalted.” In astrology, having an exalted moon means it functions optimally on your moon line. Another interesting fact when looking into astrocartography!
People with a Taurus moon may find grounded stability and comfort, attracting abundance and feeling very in tune with their physical body and senses in cities that touch their moon line. As a creative person, I wanted to go near the line that has everything to do with art and culture, and I found that on my Venus line. Wondering where you should go next? Send me a message!
