It’s been a while since there’s been this much buzz around all four major sports franchises in Detroit. The teams from the “313” have brought more excitement to the Motor City than recent history. The Detroit Tigers are coming off back-to-back playoff appearances.
The Detroit Lions have had their most successful consecutive seasons in franchise history, and the Pistons and Red Wings are both at the top of their conferences. So, as we enter the brand-new year, when people have new aspirations, goals, and promises, what would their wishes be for their favorite Detroit team?
Give Detroit Fans What They Want
Detroit Lions
We will start here since the Lions are 2025’s most disappointing team. The team that was once full of grit is now preparing to go fishing. After being a preseason Super Bowl contender, they failed to make the playoffs in embarrassing fashion. The back-to-back NFC North Champions have lost their way. The NFC Championship game and the 15-2 record seem so long ago.
Well, Lions’ fans must call on their genie friends by rubbing that lamp because they may need three wishes to keep their Super Bowl window open. Hey Brad, I know “we’re good,” but we need help with the defensive line. Please give us help on the opposite side of Hutch. And please, Marcus Davenport is not a solution.
Our second wish is to replenish that once-dominant offensive line. Did you see how pretty our offense looked when we had arguably the best line in the league? Sonic and Knuckles were the best tandem in the league, making defenders look stupid by juking and trucking. Plus, Goff looked like an MVP candidate.
Lastly, please get us an Offensive Coordinator who can run an offense. Dan Campbell hit a grand slam with now Chicago Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson as OC and struck out looking with John Morton. Just get someone who can call plays and utilize our weapons.
Detroit Tigers
Sometimes I still can’t believe the Detroit Tigers made the playoffs the past two seasons. One year, they have a historic comeback with less than a one percent chance in August, the next, they almost blow the best record in baseball, avoiding a titanic collapse. So what could Tigers’ fans ask for?
Let’s start by showing Tarik Skubal you are serious about winning. Wouldn’t you love a Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, or Alex Bregman in the lineup? Or how about two of the three? Let’s be honest, Skubal’s days in Detroit are probably numbered. Let’s try to win the World Series and set up a long-term run. Prospects don’t always blossom right away, so fans shouldn’t have to rely on Kevin McGonigle.
Detroit Pistons
Every fifteen years or so, the Detroit Pistons get very interesting. Dating back to the “Bad Boy” era of basketball, where Isiah Thomas and company won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990. It was then, later in 2004, that the “Going to Work” Pistons would win their third championship in franchise history. They also had a six-year span of making the Eastern Conference Championship.
Well, it’s been more than fifteen years this time, but the Pistons are in contention for a serious playoff run. That’s our wish! We got a taste of the playoffs and our first playoff win in sixteen years last season. This year, the people of Detroit would love a deep playoff run behind our superstar Cade Cunningham in a wide-open Eastern Conference.
Detroit Red Wings
Does anyone remember the twenty-five-year playoff streak? That’s a quarter of a century! Does anyone refer to Detroit as “Hockeytown” anymore? Do people forget the four Stanley Cups in just over a decade? The “Yzerplan” will turn seven in 2026, and we have yet to see a playoff birth.
The Red Wings have been in this position under the former captain’s watch as GM. As a Detroit Red Wings fan, all we want is a chance at the playoffs. The team hasn’t made the postseason since 2016, making the current streak the longest in franchise history. So, for our last wish, all we want is a playoff appearance. Is that so much to ask for?
