The Golden Globes were last night, and so many people and films went home with awards. On the movie side, this is the biggest precursor to the Oscars. A win at the Golden Globes doesn’t always imply the Oscar is next, but it’s a pretty good omen. That’s good news for plenty of last night’s nominees.

As mentioned, the Oscars don’t always follow the same path as the Golden Globes. That said, Timothee Chalamet, Sinners, One Battle After Another, and Paul Thomas Anderson have to be feeling pretty great about their chances this March.

There are a couple of stunners here. Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama is a big win for Wagner Moura, but it’s a surprise that he landed it over Leonardo DiCaprio and Ethan Hawke. Best Motion Picture — Animated being KPop Demon Hunters over Zootopia 2 is a little surprising as well.
Considering the actual box office performance (which has felt undeserved for the entire franchise), it’s interesting that Avatar: Fire & Ash didn’t take home Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Sinners is a worthy winner, but it’s a surprising one.
