Former Disney childhood star Matt Prokop and a known woman abuser were arrested on December 24, 2025, and taken into custody at Victoria County Jail in Texas. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession or promotion of child pornography. His bail is currently set at $117,500.
Matt Prokop Charged
The 35-year-old disgrace, Prokop, was formally charged with four misdemeanors, including violation of protective order, evading arrest or detention, and resisting arrest, search, or transportation, and two felony charges, including aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon and second-degree felony possession of child pornography. His first court appearance remains unknown.
This is not Prokop’s first run-in with inappropriate allegations. On May 18, 2024, he was arrested for alleged aggravated assault against his current girlfriend. There was a public incident in his hometown of Victoria, Texas, and he resisted arrest. However, he made bail and was released from jail shortly after. This is also unfortunately not his first time abusing women.
Relationship with Sarah Hyland
This is not Prokop’s first run-in with inappropriate allegations. The ‘Geek Charming’ actor dated his co-star, Sarah Hyland, who accused him of being abusive. She reported that he verbally and physically abused her throughout their five-year relationship. In May 2014, she claimed he slammed her into a vehicle and choked her while arguing. “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak,” she explained in the court documents. “I was scared and in fear for my life.”
A couple of months later, in August, Hyland’s ‘Modern Family’ co-star Julie Bowen intervened and helped her end the relationship. Hyland filed a restraining order against her alleged abuser, and per the filing, Prokop allegedly threatened to kill her dog and burn her house down if she followed through.
In September 2014, she successfully obtained a restraining order, and since then, she has rarely spoken about their relationship to the media. “I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that. It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it,” Hyland told Variety in October 2024.
Failed Actor
Prokop started his acting career as a young boy in 2007. He is best known for his Disney movie role as Josh Rosen in ‘Geek Charming,’ which was one of the only movies where he was the main character. He also appeared in several of the ‘High School Musicals’ as Jimmy “Rocket Man” Zara. He also made appearances in other Disney TV shows such as ‘Hannah Montana,’ ‘The Office,’ and ‘Modern Family.’ However, he has not been active in the Hollywood industry since his appearance in the 2013 film ‘April Apocalypse.’
His career likely came to a halt after the abuse allegations came out, and Hyland was granted a 3-year restraining order against Prokop. Before then, his career was nothing to rave about, and he was rarely the main star. He is one of those background characters who has a slightly familiar face, but is not important enough to remember, and he always played some sort of typical geek.
