A couple of months ago, rumors of TV Asahi closing Super Sentai (Power Rangers in the USA) were later confirmed in November 2025. Toei’s live-action division announced they will be progressing the series into Project RED. The first installment, Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity, features the space sheriffs and a mature direction. Toei has published three trailers, with the recent video on Jan. 17. Here’s what the tokusatsu studio shared for Super Sentai fans.
What is Project RED, Exactly?
After 50 years of Super Sentai, Toei has decided to create Project RED. Making a clever name out of the Red Ranger, RED stands for Records of Extraordinary Dimensions. The premise of this series is not to replace its predecessor, but to embrace exploring a separate multiverse. Starting with Gavan Infinity, the studio saw the original 1982 tokusatsu series as the perfect gateway.
“Many people may feel nostalgic after seeing Space Sheriff Gavan’s name,” said the official Toei post, “It’s a super popular series depicting heroes fighting against space crime organizations to protect Earth. Their metallic suits are one-of-a-kind that screams science fiction elements that excited Japanese and overseas fans.”
And after 44 years since its debut, the world has seen multiple technological innovations, including space travel. Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger writer, Atsuhiro Tomioka, implemented those discoveries into Space Sheriff Gavan’s revival. Gavan Infinity features artificial intelligence, intergalactic trade, a criminal syndicate, robot assistants, and space battles.
How Gavan Infinity’s Multiverse Concept Works
Toei informed their Super Sentai viewers that Gavan Infinity will focus on presenting the story with different Earths on Nov. 24, 2025. The January 2026 press conference later revealed that there will be three Space Sheriffs to follow.
Earth A0073 is the primary Earth that is protected by Gavan Infinity (Space Sheriff Red). Filling the role is Reiji Doki (played by Kōhei Nagata), a data analyst of the Galactic Federation Police. His crew features an autonomous human AI assistant named Agi (played by Kohana Arisaka).
His police partner is Rikiya Wanibuchi (played by Hirota Yasuda), a detective from the GFP’s 1st Investigation Sector. The cast trailer shows he will often be paired with the robot assistant, PatRun (voiced by Takehito Koyasu). Doki’s division is overseen by Data Division Chief Daisuke Date (played by Arihiro Matsunaga).
Defending Earth A8018 is Gavan Bushido (Space Sheriff Silver). Setsuna Aikokuin (played by Ryūga Akahane) displays his swordmanship to keep Japan’s civilians out of harm’s way. He serves as the public safety task force leader of the GFP. His only known ally is Public Safety Commander Rui Amō (played by Anna Iriyama). The show could hint that the blue samurai enjoys cooperating in smaller numbers.
Last but not least is Gavan Luminous (Space Sheriff Gold), who fights criminals on Earth I5109. This space sheriff holds universe similarities with Gavan Infinity and Gavan Bushido. Kiki Iwai (played by Kokona Sumi) works in the Criminal Identification division. Her entrusted partner, Investigator Kotobuki Takanari (played by Lana Tanida), helps gather clues at crime scenes to uncover the weekly monsters.
BANDAI Toyline Reveals Emolga, Cosmic Gavarion, and Gavarion Trigger
Project RED will be following Super Sentai’s formula of producing associated toys as show promotions. Bandai recently showcased the Gavan Infinity introduction models on Jan. 18. Featured in the set are the Cosmic Gavarion, the Gavarion Trigger, and the Emolga.

The Cosmic Gavarion was seen earlier on Christmas Eve 2025 for the second trailer. Tokusatsu fans have labeled its two formations, Voyager and Guardian. Voyager is for its ship form, which acts as a mobile headquarters. The series’ cast trailer hints that the GFP’s Security division is stationed in the Cosmic Gavarion, actively monitoring for intergalactic disturbances. Security Head Carel Qom Vigiles (played by Yūta Hiraoka) is seen at the ship’s observation deck. The Guardian form is the battle mech that will stop giant monsters at the end of the episode.
The Gavarion Trigger will be Gavan Infinity’s and Gavan Luminous’s signature weapon and changer. The specialized GFP blaster is one of the most simplistic hero transformation devices seen in years. By opening the back arm, the three protagonists can quickly load the ammo barrel, Emolga.
For Gavan Bushido, he will primarily dual-wield the Gavarian Blades. According to Bandai’s image teaser, there will be no additional Space Sheriffs despite having Pink, Purple, and Green vessels in the promo trailer. These metal heroes will each inherit two Emolga barrels in their arsenal. Gavan Infinity premieres on Feb. 15 at 9:30 AM JST on TV Asahi.
