The New York Mets have had a busy five days! After agreeing to a deal last week, Bo Bichette signed his new 3-year, $126 million dollar contract yesterday. Now, today, the team makes a deal to bring in Milwaukee Brewers’ two-time All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta. What did they get in return? How does this effect both teams?
Peralta Joins World Series Hopefuls
The New York Mets have their eyes on the World Series. The team that had an epic collapse in 2025, going 21-32 to just miss the playoffs. They ended the season tied with the Cincinnati Reds at 83 wins, losing the tiebreaker.
This season, it seems like the Mets are all-in trying to make a run at the back-to-back World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Only a few days after signing Bichette, they bring in Freddy Peralta, a Cy Young caliber pitcher, coming off a career year.
Peralta is coming off a 17-6 2025 season and a 2.70 ERA, both being career bests. He joins a rotation that includes Nolan McLean, Sean Manaea, David Peterson, and Clay Holmes.
Brewers Get 2 Top Prospects
Alongside Peralta, fellow RHP Tobias Myers will be sent to the Mets organization. While New York may be trying to compete in the National League, don’t count the Brewers out. Even though the former Brewers’ All-Star posted 17 wins last season, the team comfortably won the NL Central with 97 wins.
Milwaukee still has a solid rotation with Brandon Woodruff and adds two of the top-five prospects from the Mets. Jett Williams, who can play almost everywhere on the diamond, was the third-ranked prospect. They also added the fifth-ranked prospect, RHP Brandon Sproat.
Final Thoughts
Both the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets came out on this trade. The Brewers sold high on Freddy Peralta, with him coming off a career year and probably would have won the Cy Young if it wasn’t for Paul Skenes. They got a lot in return as the Mets bring in a veteran top pitcher to add to their star-heavy lineup.
