On the night before Saturday Night’s Main Event and a week before everyone’s favorite gimmick match, the Royal Rumble, WWE has new champions! Fans witnessed a title change on Friday Night SmackDown, a trend that has become common over the past month or so. With over 190 days as champions, the Wyatt Sicks dropped the SmackDown Tag Team Titles to the MFT.
Family vs Family for WWE Tag Titles
Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga, representing the MFT, added a new chapter to the Wyatt Sicks rivalry. They defeated the team of Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. First, they captured the lantern that was once carried and represents the late Bray Wyatt, and now the titles.
After members of both the MFT and Wyatt Sicks got involved, the lantern came into play as Solo hit Lumis behind the referee’s back with it on the head. Tama Tonga was then able to hit his finisher, the “Cut Throat,” and got the pin to become the new champion.
Tama Tonga is now wearing the belt for the second time, and Solo is now enjoying his first! WWE has changed most of the titles within the last month, and this adds to the list. Now, the longest-reigning champ and the only one over 100 days is Raw Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer.
Final Thoughts
WrestleMania season is right around the corner, and we are gearing up for another WWE title switch. This time it’s the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. I have no problem with the switch, as much as a fan I am of the Wyatt Sicks (mainly because of Bray). Honestly, I don’t think either group should have those titles. I would rather have them feud over the U.S. Championship between Uncle Howdy and Solo.
