Rick Carlisle, NBA, Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers got their lick back tonight against the Thunder 117-114 in OKC. That’s one of the best wins any team will have all season. Entering the game as 15.5-point favorites, this had all the makings of a Thunder blowout. However, the Pacers pulled off the improbable. Let’s dive into their shocking win.

The Pacers jumped all over the Thunder right off the opening tipoff. They won the first quarter 39-28 and grew their lead up to 17 with 9:03 left in the first half. With Thunder being the best team in the NBA over the last five seasons, playing in Oklahoma City has been one of the more difficult places to play in the league. However, this Indiana team fought hard despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s ridiculous performance.

SGA did everything in his power to will the Thunder to a win. He dropped 47 points, but it wasn’t enough. The dynamic duo of Andrew Nembhard and Pascal Siakam combined for 48 points, 13 rebounds, and 17 assists. There was also an unlikely hero. Jarace Walker had his best game of the season. Walker scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half to keep the demons away.

Final Thoughts

This game was shocking to me and many NBA fans around the world. If you had told me that Indiana would have gone into OKC and controlled from the opening tip. I wouldn’t have believed you. Then, if you had said that SGA would drop 47, and they still would have lost, I would have told you you’re out of your mind. What were your takeaways from this shocking loss? Is this game something or nothing?
