Among the most disastrous results of President Trump’s trip to Davos, Switzerland was the formation of his Board (Bored) of Peace. Created as an alternative to the United Nations, with an express goal of demilitarizing and rebuilding Gaza, it is really just another blatant money grab by Trump at the expense of his most felonius friends.
Our president will go to any length to line his pockets and bring adoration on to himself. Showcasing an abducted Nobel Peace Prize and turning the Oval Office into a gaudy shrine to his opulence isn’t enough. He now wants to form a committee of despots who seek world peace (?)
Trump’s Board of Despots
Just when you thought that Trump’s address at the World Economic Forum was the lowlight of his trip to Europe, the president shrunk to a deeper depth. After berating world leaders and international business executives with threats of additional tariffs and cessation of U.S.support for NATO, he then held a press conference to introduce his Board of Peace. And what an august Board it is.
The inaugural international leaders that have accepted Trumps’s invitation to join the Board include:
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: The man who displaced 1.1 million Palestinians in his savage attack on the Gaza Strip.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin: Ex-KGB dictator whose country stormed into the sovereign nation of Ukraine in an effort to re-form the Soviet Union.
- Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko: A leader whose reign has been characterized by rigged elections, suppressed civil liberties, violent crackdowns on dissidents, and draconian restrictions on non state-run media.
- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban: Orban has dismantled his country’s legal system, modified Hungary’s election laws to ensure his continued rule, and orchestrated the systematic suppression of human rights.
- Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev: Aliyev has been compared to a mafia crime boss. During his reign, he has detained and tortured activists and journalists, abolished presidential term limits, and systematically absconded shares of the most lucrative businesses in his country
And their reward for joining Trump’s Board of Peace? The privilege of depositing $1 billion into the president’s bank account.
Mission of the Board and Who Declined Membership
The board was created as a limited body to supervise the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, devastated by Israel’s two-year war against Hamas. The United Nations Security Council ok’d the plan in November, demonstrating international support. However, in a classic example of mission creep, Trump has longer-term plans for the board. The vision for the Board of Peace now is to tackle conflicts worldwide. In fact, the charter draft of the body does not even reference Gaza.
Who declined his invitation? Some of the United States’ closes allies and largest democracies in the world. The list includes the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Noway, Sweden, Italy, Slovenia, and Germany, The president has rescinded Canada’s invitation due to his ongoing feud with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. And the Pope’s response to the Vatican’s invitation amounted to a “don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
Trump and His Henchmen Running the Show
According to its charter Trump will chair the board possibly beyond the end of his second term as president. Also serving on the Executive Committee of the board are some of Trump’s favorite lackeys. Also along for the ride are son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Regarding his desire to acquire Greenland, Trump’s speech at Davos included this line. “You can say yes and we will be very appreciative or you can say no and we will remember.” What could go wrong?
