The Los Angeles Lakers have had their ups and downs this season, but tonight, they were masterful. They went into Chicago and beat up on the Bulls 129-118. The game was not as close as the score would dictate. LA was up by 20 points in the first half and put the game in cruise control. Let’s dive into their victory.
Lakers’ Superstar Shines
The Lakers’ superstar, Luka Doncic, dominated in every fashion of the game. Doncic finished with 46 points, 7 rebounds, & 12 assists while shooting 60% from the floor and hitting 8 threes. He proves night in and night out why he is one of the best players in the NBA.
It’s funny to say this, but Luka’s co-star, LeBron James, had a strong performance with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and three assists. Even Rui Hachimura got involved in the action with 23 points on 81.8 shooting % and a +/- of 22, the second highest on the team. LA has the firepower on offense to be one of the best teams in the league, but its attention to detail on defense hinders its ability to contend with the better teams in the conference.
Luka’s Historic Night
Not only was Luka’s performance tonight flawless, but it was also historic. He tied Laker legend Elgin Baylor for the most 45+ point and 10+ assists games for the legendary franchise. When you are in the same breath as some of the all-time greats, it means something. I have no doubt in my mind that if he continues his career with the Lakers, his number will be hanging in the rafters someday.
Final Thoughts
As a Laker fan, I am skeptical of the team’s ability to compete with the Thunder and Nuggets in the postseason, if they play. However, with Austin Reaves coming back in the near future, it’ll be interesting to see how the team looks with their three stars on the floor.
