Rumblings are coming out of Philadelphia this morning. The 76ers’ forward, Paul George, is being suspended by the NBA for violating the league’s anti-drug program. This comes at a terrible time, as they are coming off their previous two wins and have a 26-21 record on the season. Let’s dive into the suspension.
76ers’ Star Suspended

The NBA announced that the Philadelphia 76ers’ Paul George will be suspended for the next 25 games, starting tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans. This comes after George has had a solid game with 15 points against the Kings and 32 in the previous game against the Bucks.
George has issued a statement saying, “Over the past few years, I’ve discussed the importance of mental health, and in the course of recently seeking treatment for an issue of my own, I made the mistake of taking an improper medication. I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates and the Philly fans for my poor decision making during this process.
“I am focused on using this time to make sure that my mind and body are in the best condition to help the team when I return.”
What Will It Cost PG & 76ers?
For George, the suspension will cost him $12 million in salary for the 2025 season. As for the 76ers, this comes at one of the worst periods imaginable. It appears their superstar, Joel Embiid, has returned to semi-normal form and is back to full-time minutes. With the talent this team possesses, they just need to continue playing together to develop chemistry.
Final Thoughts
PG has been one of my favorite players since he entered the league with the Pacers, and he’s overcome so much. Hopefully, whatever medication he was taking wasn’t PEDs, and he will return to the court for Philly in 25 games. What do you make of the suspension, and can the 76ers make a run in the Eastern Conference?
