One word describes this trade: wow. The Los Angeles Clippers are moving one of their two stars, James Harden, to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland and a second-round pick. Just when it seems a team is on the comeback, they shake the snow globe. Let’s dive head first into this trade!
Clippers Trade for Harden

The Clippers are making one of the more shocking moves this trade deadline. They are trading the 11-time All-Star James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for their star point guard Darius Garland and a second-round draft pick. This move comes as a shock to most. LA has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA, with a 15-5 record in its last 20 games.
Reaction
I love this trade for both teams. For the Cavs, the acquisition is in a “win now” situation, where they can potentially make a run in a weak Eastern Conference. Conversely, for LA, it means they get younger, and that’s great for their aging roster. You add a 26-year-old point guard who can be the face of your franchise whenever the Kawhi Leonard era of the team is over. Garland is a hell of a player and will look great for LA.
Final Thoughts
This is one of the more balanced trades you will see a team make. It benefits both teams evenly, sort of. What do you make of the trade? Do you think it is wise for the Cavaliers to trade for a player who has fizzled out in the playoffs? Lastly, can the Cavs make a run in the East after this deal?
