The Detroit Tigers are adding to an already talented pitching staff. They are signing two-time all-star, Framber Valdez, to a three-year, $115 Million contract, the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher! This is an interesting move with the Tarik Skubal cloud over the organization. Let’s dive into the signing!
Tigers Sign Valdez

The 87-win Detroit Tigers are adding another great pitcher to their rotation. Framber Valdez, the two-time all-star and World Series-winning pitcher, is one of the better lefties in the game. Last season he strong season, posting a 13-11 record, 3.66 ERA, 31 GS, 192 IP, 187 K’s, and a WHIP of 1.245. Did Valdez have his best year? No, but it’s not as if it was dreadful.
Reaction
I love the signing. When you don’t have an abundance of pop in your lineup, your pitchers need to stand tall. They have, in my opinion, the best pitcher in the world with Tarik Skubal and more solid pitching with Jack Flaherty and Casey Mize. They have the arms to contend for the AL Central and a potential deep playoff run. Maybe if they trade for a position player or two, they could plant their flags as one of the best teams in baseball.
Final Thoughts
With baseball right around the corner, I am excited for this time of the year. We’ve got the WBC starting March 5th and the MLB regular season not far after that. What do you think of the signing, and do you think the Tigers have enough to contend for the World Series? Lastly, what do you think Detroit does with the Tarik Skubal situation?
As always, thank you so much for checking out my thoughts and reaction to the Detroit Tigers signing LHP Framber Valdez. Be sure to check out our other amazing content here at New Leaf News! We hope you’re enjoying your day and look forward to seeing you again soon.
