Wow. That was a shalacking. The Detroit Pistons beat the breaks off the New York Knicks tonight, 118-80. We don’t normally see a team get blown out in that fashion, ever. It was apparent to me that New York might be in trouble when their star center, Karl-Anthony Towns, was ruled out. Let’s dive into the beatdown!
Pistons Beat the Pistons Off the Knicks

This wasn’t an instance where a single player scored 50 points, and the team ran away with it. The Detroit Pistons demolished the New York Knicks in every facet of the game. Look at their superstar, Cade Cunningham, who only played 22 minutes. The Pistons had five players score in double-digits to the Knicks’ three. They locked down Jalen Brunson to only 12 points on 4/20 shooting, including 0/8 from three. That was as much of a well-rounded assault as I have ever seen.
Reaction
Detroit stunned me. I knew that they were a great team, but not a world beater. I now believe that they are the best team in the Eastern Conference. When you dismantle a team like they just did, you send a statement to the entire NBA. I still believe that a team in the West will beat them in the NBA Finals, but who knows. Maybe they draw a favorable matchup.
Final Thoughts
To have the best player on your team only play 22 minutes, and you win by 38 points, holy moly. That is the definition of a well-rounded roster. Now the Knicks were without two of their best players, but a 38-point swing is insane. What did you make of the beatdown? Did the Pistons prove they are the best team in the East after tonight? Lastly, will they make the NBA Finals?
As always, thank you so much for checking out my thoughts and reaction to the New York Knicks getting doggwalked by the Detroit Pistons. Be sure to check out our other amazing content here at New Leaf News! We hope you’re enjoying your day and look forward to seeing you again soon.
