The FBI released new photos and video caught on surveillance on Tuesday from the night Nancy Guthrie disappeared. The 84-year-old mother of ‘Today’ co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31 and was reported missing the following day after her family could not reach her. Authorities have been investigating her disappearance as if it were a kidnapping, and the images shared by FBI Director Kash Patel prove that narrative.
New Evidence in Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
Patel posted a series of images and videos on X, stating the new visuals show an “armed individual” concealing their identity with a ski mask and gloves, “appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
He explained that over the last week, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been thoroughly investigating the scene and working with private sector partners to recover images or videos from Nancy Guthrie’s Nest camera, which was disabled at the time of her disappearance. “The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems,” he said.
Ransom Note Deadline
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on the afternoon of Sunday, February 1, after a church friend called the family, concerned she did not show up for church service. Guthrie’s family went to her home north of Tucson, Arizona, and found it empty, with a little blood on the front porch.
A slew of ransom notes have been received, which authorities are carefully sifting through to find legitimate ones. They came across one that demanded $6 million in bitcoin, and if they failed to meet that demand, Guthrie’s life would be at risk. The deadline, which was Monday at 5 p.m., has passed, but the note’s authenticity has not been confirmed by authorities.
On Monday, the FBI said it was not aware of any contact made by the family to any suspected kidnappers. “The FBI is not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers, nor have we identified a suspect or person of interest in this case at this time,” their statement read.
Savannah Guthrie released yet another Instagram video, pleading with the public to help find her mother, saying this has been a “nightmare” to go through, and asks anyone with any information to report it to the police. “We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,” she concluded. The Investigation
Law enforcement has entered its ninth day of investigating the disappearance and plausible kidnapping of Nancy . In an effort to speed the investigation and bring awareness to the situation, the FBI launched a webpage detailing her disappearance and posted the newly released videos and images of the masked man breaking into her home.
Her daughter Annie, as reported by multiple outlets, stated they had been seen searching her neighborhood since that was the last place she had been seen before being dropped off at her home for the evening.
Both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office have been seen canvassing the area. There are multiple reports of officers who were “looking in the brush and in a resident’s backyard shed,” while others were “overheard asking neighbors for security camera video.”
Patel also recently posted new footage of another suspect walking up to the front door of Guthrie’s home, head down, wearing gloves and a backpack. “Additional recovered footage, from the same camera — at the same timeline the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance,” Patel wrote in the caption on X. “This footage is just before the original video shared, with the individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door.”
