Nancy Guthrie

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie continues into week three without any arrests or identifying suspects since the mother of ‘Today’ show co-host Savannah Guthrie was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona.

The Search Continues

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said they expect more law enforcement operations within the week. The furthest the case has gone is releasing recovered video and photos from Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera showing the suspect wearing a mask and gloves. The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9” tall with an average build. He was seen wearing a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack when tampering with the camera in the early hours of February 1.

The FBI increased the reward last week for any information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie or the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance to $100,000. Authorities are grasping at anything they can to bring her home, and have not publicly identified any persons of interest.

Latest Piece of Evidence

Authorities recovered a glove recently from the surrounding area of Guthrie’s home, and the FBI received preliminary results of the test Saturday, which could be considered a breakthrough in the case by retired NYPD Lt. Dr. Darrin Porcher. The FBI is awaiting quality control and official confirmation before an unknown male profile is entered into CODIS.

It’s truly a breakthrough in the case. The DNA will go into the CODIS database, and I’m hopeful a match will occur. If unsuccessful, we can go the genealogical route to match secondary DNA through family members, which was a success in the [Bryan] Kohberger case,” Porcher said. “On another note, the private sector has the ability to create an image of a person based on DNA.”

An FBI spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the glove recovered and sent for DNA analysis is different from the others found near the home since most of those were discarded by searchers. The glove found appears to match the gloves seen on the suspect in the surveillance footage. They report the confirmation process takes about 24 hours from the time the bureau receives the DNA sample.

The FBI was seen searching the Catalina Foothills last week near Nancy Guthrie’s home, where the glove containing the DNA profile was recovered. In a video captured by Fox News Digital, several agents are seen walking along a busy road, canvassing the area. They eventually found the glove in a nearby field two miles from Guthrie’s home.

FBI and Local Law Enforcement

Former Arizona Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould has been following the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie and shared his opinion on Sheriff Chris Nanos’ involvement. Gould believes Nanos should take a step back from the investigation and allow federal law enforcement to lead. He criticized Nanos, saying “he has made some mistakes in this case that have impeded the investigation.”

It is my opinion that he should step out of the way and let the FBI do its job. I think his deputies are doing a very fine job on the ground, but my concern is that the sheriff is becoming more of the story than trying to bring these people to justice and bring Nancy Guthrie home safe and sound,” Gould said.

There’s a lot going on right now,” he added. “I’d like to be optimistic and think that we’re very close, but we have to keep in mind that not only must we find Nancy Guthrie, we have to make sure that we can prosecute the people that have committed this crime.”

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (520-351-4900), or 88-CRIME.
