Game preservationist group Stop Killing Games recently shared its latest update on its mission to preserve online multiplayer servers. For over 6 months, founder Ross Scott and his team have been negotiating with the European Commission while drafting the Digital Fairness Act. On Feb. 23, 2026, SKG held a press conference at the EU Parliament building, discussing their progress on the bipartisan bill and launching two non-governmental groups.
Stop Killing Games February 2026 Update
Organizer Moritz Katzner addressed that the Digital Fairness Act’s development has piqued the interest of some Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). He explained to livestream viewers and reporters, “They’ve been pretty open much the same back when we met with them [back in October] on the Digital Fairness Act. Half of them being completely in support, the other half saying ‘No, on the law, we don’t think your position is correct. So, we’ll have to see.”
Katzner then added, “I’m going to be honest, the commission has factually no interests to bring us in and we’re anticipating that, because guess what – the European Union is made up of far more than just the European Commission.” He mentioned a couple of supporting MEPs among the eight parties in the Union, both from the left and right spectrum.
Stop Killing Games’s efforts were also recognized by EU Minister Stephanie Peacock back in November. While she was unable to have the Digital Fairness Act prevent game delistings, Peacock sought to have the United Kingdom closely monitor video game companies’ practices. This is due to consumers who have purchased their products and lost ownership after they were removed from digital storefronts. Their actions resulted in violating the 2015 Consumer Act and the Digital Market Act.
A New Propasal For the Digital Fairness Act
MEP of the Greens/European Free Alliance, Marketa Gregorova, attended the Stop Killing Games conference as a supporter and guest speaker. Surprisingly, she sees the Digital Fairness Act as a way to grant permission to preserve online messages for authorities.

Her reasoning is related to the child abuse and exploitation cases from 2021. Gregorova fears the controversial EU Chat Control regulation and age verification policies are being misused to benefit criminals. “In 2021, it seemed like in the Parliament, everybody just voted for chat control because it’s for child protection, right? But then, many people like you send out emails and messages [to everyone and the MEPs]. Suddenly, everybody switched, both in the government and in the Parliament,” she told on YouTube.
“It’s important enough for [Stop Killing Games], me, and of course, others who are a little bit more knowledgeable about the topic to persuade [the European Commission] about the data, about the arguments. Otherwise, they go with the flow of their groups.”
The Digital Fairness Act is also beneficial for video game platforms that aim towards children. During 2025, YouTuber Schlep and To Catch A Predator host Chris Hanson launched an investigation on the popular MMO, Roblox. The case was made after the platform established the Removal of Vigilantes rule, which led to Schlep’s ban. The game’s founder, David Baszuck, has actively avoided answering the press about the questionable security measures. Roblox now finds itself crumbling as a recent investigation was launched in LA due to the failure of age-restricted chats.
Stop Killing Games To Become An NGO
Katzner advised Scott to make Stop Killing Games into an NGO to continue their operations. An NGO, or non-government organization, are non-profit group that pushes to volunteer or provide a service for their community. For the once-game preservationists, the Digital Fairness Act has expanded beyond the realm of the video game industry. The two are planning for the organization to have UK and US branches.
Working as a watchdog for over two years, Scott is thankful for Katzner’s political knowledge. “In my opinion,” he told PC Gamer, “he’s been doing as much for [Stop Killing Games] in the political sphere as I did on the issue on everything prior to that.” He then briefly mentioned their exhaustion, “And I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. That could be why [Katzner] tends to not sleep. I’ve told him he should sleep, but whatever. Edgar Allen Poe didn’t like sleep either.”
Stop Killing Games and their supporters are urging to push for transparency against governments that are trying to endorse mass digital surveillance.
