The 2026 Oscars just wrapped up. A year from now, we’ll be coming off the awards season for the 2026 films, and I’m sure it will be just as delightful and non-toxic as the discourse was for the 2025 movies. Surely, the next crop of Best Actor nominees won’t be put through the unfair wringer, and the deserved Best Picture winner won’t be called one of the worst wins ever.
It’s totally foolish to try to predict the 2027 Oscars. I have seen fewer than 10 movies this calendar year, and I don’t think any of them will really be awards contenders (save maybe The Bone Temple, but with 28 Years Later being snubbed, I wouldn’t count on it). Still, it’s fun to predict, even if this list will look totally stupid in one year.
Predicting Major Oscar Awards for 2027

This prediction is only really feasible for the acting, directing, writing, and Best Picture awards. The technical aspects can’t even be predicted now without even a trailer for most of these films, so it’s best to ignore those. So, without further ado, here are the predicted 2027 Oscars (based on the 2026 calendar via IMDb).
Best Picture
- The Odyssey
- Project Hail Mary
- Digger
- Dune: Part Three
- Disclosure Day
- The Social Reckoning
- Godzilla Minus Zero
- The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
- I Love Boosters
- Michael
There will undoubtedly be some international films that weren’t on the calendar that get nominations, but this is a pretty good list. It’s The Odyssey’s award to lose, but don’t sleep on Project Hail Mary. The early reviews are astonishingly good.
Best Animated Feature
- The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
- Toy Story 5
- The Angry Birds 3
- The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender
- Hoppers
I’m calling my shot now: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. It’s not exactly a stacked animation year, and it figures to be the biggest hit unless Pixar really turns back the clock with Toy Story 5.
Best Actor
- Ryan Gosling – Project Hail Mary
- Matt Damon – The Odyssey
- Timothee Chalamet – Dune: Part Three
- Robert Aramayo – I Swear
- Tom Cruise – Digger
These are all pretty straightforward. Robert Aramayo just won the BAFTA for I Swear, which will be eligible for the 2027 Oscars. If the Academy doesn’t nominate it due to weird scheduling things, then pencil in Sam Rockwell in Wild Horse Nine.
Best Actress
- Zendaya – The Drama
- Lili Reinhart – Forbidden Fruits
- Emily Blunt – Disclosure Day
- Renata Reinsve – Backrooms
- Meryl Streep – The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Drama looks really good, and Zendaya shines in roles like these. The early word out of South by Southwest is that Lili Reinhart is wonderful in Forbidden Fruits. Renata Reinsve may seem out of place, but horror is finally on the Oscars’ radar, and she’s a fantastic actress.
Best Supporting Actor
- Jesse Plemons – Digger or Sunrise on the Reaping
- Robert Pattinson – Dune: Part Three
- Tom Holland – The Odyssey
- Josh O’Connor – Disclosure Day
- Andrew Scott – Pressure
Lock in Jesse Plemons for something. He was the biggest snub at the 2026 Oscars, and he’s got two excellent chances to get in this year. I’d expect Digger to do it, since he’ll be working with Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Tom Cruise there.
Best Supporting Actress
- Anne Hathaway – The Odyssey
- Parker Posey – Wild Horse Nine
- Elle Fanning – Sunrise on the Reaping
- AnnaSophia Robb – I Play Rocky
- Lily-Rose Depp – Werwulf
It’s Anne Hathaway in a Christopher Nolan film. That’s all we need to know. I also expect Elle Fanning to continue her run of dominance after Sentimental Value and earn another nomination. Lily-Rose Depp might’ve been snubbed after Nosferatu, but not this time.
Best Director
- Christopher Nolan – The Odyssey
- Denis Villeneuve – Dune: Part Three
- Stephen Spielberg – Disclosure Day
- Alejandro G. Iñárritu – Digger
- Boots Riley – I Love Boosters
Basically, Best Director is a compilation of a few of the Best Picture nominees, which makes this prediction for the 2027 Oscars a little easier. Nolan is the easiest guess of all time, and Villeneuve is a highly likely nominee as well.
Conclusion
Go ahead and bookmark this page so you can make fun of me in January. I am sure this list will age pretty poorly, but it was a fun exercise and a fantastic way to look ahead at the 2026 slate of movies and guess which ones will be up for Oscars.
