The first official trailer has arrived for Dune: Part Three, starring Timothee Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson, Robert Pattinson, and more. Denis Villeneuve’s third installment in the Dune trilogy is set for a December release date. Ahead of that, several of the cast members revealed some things about their characters.
Dune: Part Three Trailer Drops, Timothee Chalamet and More Discuss

The cast and crew of Dune: Part Three, minus Timothee Chalamet, who dropped a recording for the event, were present at a trailer launch party for the movie. Denis Villeneuve joked that it was as packed as a movie premiere, signaling the immense hype for the final Dune film in the trilogy.
“This film would not exist without the master of cinema, the great artist that is Denis Villeneuve,” Chalamet said via Variety. “Denis always says, ‘Vive le cinéma.’ And with this third film, I think he has done just that: a true act of cinema. I’m not alone in saying thank you to Denis for his dedication in bringing the ‘Dune’ films to life — and now the ‘Dune’ trilogy to life.”
This event revealed plenty about the movie, including a 17-year time jump. Fans of the books won’t be surprised by that. There is, however, no recasting. Everyone’s back as their original characters aged up, with the exception of newcomers like Robert Pattinson.
Zendaya plays Paul Atreides’ wife Chani, who appears to be in direct conflict with Paul. This is a natural continuation from the explosive end to Dune: Part Two. “I want to start by saying I love Florence Pugh, so wonderful in this role,” Zendaya said, noting that she was anxious to do more scenes with Pugh. “You guys will just have to see for yourself what happens, because it’s quite the journey.”
Stilgar, a fan favorite in the second film for his immense love of Paul, is portrayed once again by Javier Bardem. “It takes him to a place where he sees different realities of what being in power means after so long, and he’s in this contradiction between the loyalty to the idea that he strongly fought and believed back in the day, and also the result of the idea becoming something that he thinks or feels that he may not be,” he revealed about his character.
Bardem also noted that Stilgar finds himself in a contradiction between what he once dreamed about and the reality that’s taking place as a result. Anya Taylor-Joy, who briefly portrayed Alia, Paul’s unborn sister in the second film, is in a much bigger role this time around.
“She carries the weight and the wisdom of generations and generations in her head. She’s never in a singular conversation. It’s kind of everything everywhere, all at once. And the one thing that she really feels most strongly about is her love and devotion to her brother, because that is the only person who’s ever made her feel like she makes sense,” the actress revealed, adding that Alia would do anything for Paul to varying levels of “insanity.”
Robert Pattinson, portraying the shape-shifting Scytale, said he had asked Zendaya on the set of the upcoming The Drama about how to get involved with a Dune film. Not long after, he got the call and joined the All-Star cast for the third film.
“They’re such a towering achievement by the cast,” Pattinson said. “Everybody wants to work with Denis; he’s a master. And when you see the scope and scale and ambition of these movies, like on set, you get why they feel like this on the screen. It’s just extraordinary.”
Most of the original crew is back for this final installment, with the notable exception of cinematographer Greg Fraiser. Linus Sandgren (who shot “Wuthering Heights” this year) is stepping into the role. Most of the movie was shot on 65mm film, like the previous two, but a substantial chunk was shot on IMAX film, a first for Villeneuve.
Conclusion
Moments ago, I wrote about the 2027 Oscars predictions. I was adamant that Dune: Part Three would land a ton of Oscar nominations, including for Timothee Chalamet. Now, with the trailer out and all this information from the cast and crew, I’m even more convinced.
