I’d be lying if I said that it’s not easy to make a Cancer cry. Personally, sometimes the tears come simply after a phone call with my mother that I always miss, or I’m feeling nostalgic looking at photos from the past. I was once ashamed of being able to feel everything all the time, but now I recognize it as a source of humanity. I know I’m alive because I can feel every vibration around me. It’s a beautiful thing.

However, the idea that Cancers are docile and do nothing but cry is not only untrue, it’s almost enough to make you laugh. If I know Cancers (I’m a Cancer sun, moon, and rising by the way), I know that past and current history will show us that there’s nothing quite as satisfying as witnessing a Cancer who has had enough!

Solange Knowles and The Elevator

When Beyoncé released the remix to her 2014 banger, Flawless, fans weren’t just screaming about the Nicki Minaj feature. It was this particular lyric that also had fans gagged:

“Of course, sometimes sh- go down when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”

This lyric is referring to the infamous scene that happened between Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s Cancerian sister, Solange. In May of the same year, a surveillance video leaked from the Standard Hotel in New York in which Solange was seen physically attacking Jay-Z in an elevator with Beyoncé standing beside them. The video was published by TMZ, and numerous rumors swirled about why Solange had violently confronted her brother-in-law after the trio attended the 2014 Met Gala.

Rumor has it that Solange became enraged after witnessing an interaction between Jay-Z and fashion designer Rachel Roy, who has been accused of having an affair with the rapper. Now, no one really knows the truth about why Solange decided to take her crab claws out and whop her brother-in-law, but checking the surveillance video…does that look like a crybaby Cancer to you?!

Frida Kahlo Takes Her Lover’s Lover

Frida Kahlo has been called many things. Genius, talented, and passionate are just a few adjectives we could give to one of Mexico’s most famous painters. But she wasn’t a pushover like we associate with most crybabies. She poured her passions into her work, her writing, and…her lovers. A quote found in one of her many notebooks read:

“There have been two great accidents in my life. One was the trolley, and the other was Diego. Diego was by far the worst.”

Diego, being her (creepy and much older) husband, Diego Rivera. Rivera was often engaged in affairs with other women, and like any wife, Kahlo wasn’t pleased. So, she often, herself, took matters into her own hands.

According to reports from family members, friends, and lovers themselves, Cancer Kahlo would have affairs with women who had previously been with her husband. One infamous affair involved actress Paulette Goddard. I’m not saying that all Cancers are adulterers, but I am saying that this is one hell of a way to get your lick back after being scorned.

Furthermore, in 2021, her 1949 painting, Diego y yo sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. It’s considered one of Kahlo’s most “psychologically revealing paintings” and sold for $34.9 million.

What makes it even more satisfying is that with this record-breaking sale, our Cancer queen had now far exceeded the record previously set by her husband when his artwork Los Rivales became the most expensive Latin American work of art to be sold at auction for $9.76m in 2018. If you look closely at Diego y yo, you can see tears streaming down Kahlo’s face.

These are just two examples as to why this idea that Cancers are going to do nothing but cry is simply untrue. Maybe an unelevated Cancer will sit in their shell and wallow in their own water, but I think there are some of us who turn our tears into beauty. Wearing your heart on your sleeve is not for the weak. We live in a world where we’re told the only welcomed emotion is happiness. Cheers (and tears) for those who know and show otherwise.
