Justin Simmons, NFL Denver Broncos

Former safety for the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons, Justin Simmons, has announced his retirement from the NFL. The four-time second-team All-Pro was renowned as one of the best safeties in the league when he was at his prime. Even in his later years, he remained an effective player. Let’s dive into his career and how he should be remembered by Broncos’ Country.

Simmons was drafted in the 3rd round, 98th overall, in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. By his second season, he was the team’s starting safety and didn’t look back. He would go on to play in Mile High for eight seasons, tallying 30 interceptions, including leading the NFL in picks in 2022. The talented safety would play for the Atlanta Falcons in his final season back in 2024.

How Will He Be Remembered in the NFL?

Was he ever considered one of the best safeties in the NFL? Most would say no; however, he was a player with a high football IQ and a knack for the position. In his nine-year career, he made the Pro Bowl twice (2020, 2023) and made second-team All-Pro in four seasons (2019, 2021-2023). I think he will be in consideration for the Denver Broncos Ring of Honor at some point.

Final Thoughts

I remember when he was a free agent back in 2024. As a Steelers fan, I had my fingers crossed that he would play for the black and gold. However, he and Jessie Bates III looked great in the red and black with the Falcons. How will you remember Simmons’ career?
