When it rains, it pours. The Houston Astros’ shortstop Carlos Correa is undergoing season-ending surgery after suffering a torn tendon in his left ankle. The three-time all-star made his return to the Astros last season after spending 3.5 years with the Minnesota Twins. This is heartbreaking for one of the organization’s souls and the clubhouse.
Astros Lose Correa For the Season

Carlos Correa suffered a left angle tendon injury on Tuesday when he was in the batting cages. Manager Joe Espada was quoted as saying, “He was getting his swings in and suffered (the injury) while he was taking a swing.” Correa was one of the bright spots on the Astros’ lineup with batting splits of .279/.369/.418 and three homers. Houston hasn’t had much team success, with a 15-22 record to start the season.
Houston moved Nick Allen from third base to shortstop to take Correa’s spot on the defensive side of the diamond. In the batting order, they shifted Jose Altuve to the leadoff spot and Brenden Shewmake to the 9th hole. Currently in 4th place in the AL West is not where they want to be. On the bright side, Houston is only four games back of the Athletics, who are sitting with a record of 18-17.
Final Thoughts
It seems like they can’t get anything to fall their way. From Hunter Brown’s injury to now, Correa’s. Houston beat the Los Angeles Dodgers last night 2-1, with two solo moonshots from Christian Walker and Brendon Shewmake. Do you think they can get back in the AL West race without Correa?
