Breece Hall, New York Jets, NFL

The New York Jets finally extended their bell-cow running back. After years of being rumored as a candidate to be traded for the past two deadlines, Breece Hall has gotten paid. With his new contract, Hall becomes the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL. Is this an overpay? What does this mean for the Jets?

The New York Jets have extended Breece Hall to a three-year, $45.75 million contract. Hall has been the featured back in NY for the past four seasons after being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been great when healthy. During his tenure, Hall has tallied 3,398 rushing yards and 18 TDs on 4.5 yards per carry.

Was This an Overpay?

This contract makes Hall the third-highest running back in the NFL, behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffery. He’s ahead of Derrick Henry in terms of his per-year salary. I think Breece is a good running back, within the top ten, but not a game-changing player.

Coming off his first season, when he hit the 1,000 rushing yard mark, I don’t believe this is an overpay. Is he the third-best running back in the league? No, however, he is an electric player and a back who finally got his long-term contract.

Final Thoughts

I think this contract won’t affect the two superstar backs who will be paid over the next few seasons, Jahmyr Gibbs and Bijan Robinson. Overall, that’s about what NFL teams will need to pay for an above-average running back in today’s game. What did you make of the news? Do you think this is an overpay?
