The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Quin Snyder. Snyder has been with the team since the 2022-2023 season. After a successful 2025-2026 season, he more than earned this extension. This organization finally has some stability and is trending upward.
Hawks Extend Snyder

Despite a sub .500 record during his time in Atlanta, the Hawks are coming off their best year under Snyder. With a record of 46-36 on the season, that is a six-game improvement from the previous season. That record landed the Hawks with the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference and a playoff birth for the first time since 2022-2023, the year Snyder took over with 21 games left in the season.
Post All-Star break, Atlanta was one of the best teams in the NBA. With a 20-6 record, the best in the Eastern Conference and the third-best in the NBA, only behind the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. They also took the New York Knicks to six games in the postseason. That is a tremendous jump from where this franchise was just three seasons ago.
Is This a Good Signing?
This is a good signing for Atlanta. I believe Snyder is one of the best coaches in the NBA and has a young group of players to build around. We saw Jalen Johnson take a leap this season and make the All-NBA third team, Dyson Daniels continue to be an excellent defender, and become the team in NBA History to win back-to-back Most Improved Player Awards.
Final Thoughts
The sky is the limit for this core. Do I see them being one of the best teams in the NBA next season? No, but they will take another step forward. When you keep an organization together for multiple seasons, good things happen. The Hawks’ win total has increased every season, and I expect that to continue. What did you make of the news? Was it smart for Atlanta to extend Snyder?
