The Chicago Bulls have found their next head coach. They are hiring the interim head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, Tiago Splitter, to become the franchise’s 26th head coach. For a team with an abundance of young talent, they need someone who can capitalize on their untapped skill and grow with the core of the roster.
Bulls Hire Splitter

After four straight sub .500 season, the Windy City has decided to get a new voice in the building. The Bulls fired Billy Donovan after a subpar tenure. Pivoting to the NBA Champion, Tiago Splitter, who spent six seasons as a player with the Spurs, Hawks, and 76ers from 2010-2017, and three seasons as an assistant coach with the Nets and Rockets from 2020-2024.
Last season was Splitter’s first chance at a head coaching opportunity, and he took full advantage of it. After Chauncey Billups was suspended by the NBA after being arrested by the FBI, the Trail Blazers and he led them to a 42-20 record, 42-39 when he was coaching, and their first playoff birth since the 2020-2021 season.
Was It a Good Hire?
I think this is an excellent hire. You give this young, talented core of Josh Giddey, Matats Buzelis, and Anfernee Simons a competent head coach, and they might be young and exciting early, but with the right moves, they could be a sneaky team in the Eastern Conference. I was impressed with the job Splitter did last season, considering the situations around the organization.
Final Thoughts
When I saw this morning that the Bulls were hiring Splitter, I thought this was a great hire for Chicago. I always thought that the Windy City had an interesting team and roster, but just needed a coach to grow with. Splitter will be the coach to get this team back on track. What are your thoughts on the hire?
