This summer season has been a doozy in astrology to say the least…and it’s not over yet. On July 26th, the north node will be leaving Pisces and entering Aquarius. Whereas it’s opposite, the South Node, will be leaving Virgo for Leo.
This transit, unlike the last cycle, which encouraged us to focus on personal habits and health, wants us to focus on community, social change, our own gumption, and what we’re willing to give up for the greater good. If I may quote everyone’s favorite bad gyal, Rihanna, on her hit single, “Kiss It Better: “What are you willing to dooooo? Oh! Tell me what you’re willing to dooo!”
What Are The North and South Nodes
When you are looking at your birth chart and specifically want to know your direction in life, astrology pays particular attention to the North and South Nodes. These points symbolically speak to past experiences as well as the direction of personal growth. The sign containing the North Node is shared by everyone born during a particular period because it’s a generational placement.
The South Node represents our overdeveloped character traits. It’s our past and our comfort zone. We are talented here, but if we overdo this area of life or hold onto these traits to feel secure, we may stagnate. The North Node points to the qualities that we need to work on and develop to achieve inner balance and fulfillment. It’s what life can look like when you step out of the box you’re so used to.
North Node in Aquarius
Aquarius has been getting its groove on this year. With the North Node moving into the sign of the zodiac (Aquarius are the proud weirdos in astrology), the next 20 months are about to get a little more futuristic and community-minded. Urging us to innovate, collaborate, and design smarter ways to live, work, and care for one another. Expect major updates to social systems, both online and in person.
Change is scary, but it’s best to keep an open mind. Jupiter is opposing Pluto right now as well, and with these two transits happening at the same time, it’s like the universe is saying, ready or not, this is happening.
South Node In Leo
Leo season is starting with a grand task for the….center of attention sign (I mean that with no disrespect, lions). Attention-seeking, the desire for drama, and materialism are the traits we associate with Leo. I mean, that’s what happens when you’re the king/queen of the jungle.
But with the North Node in Aquarius asking us to focus on the collective, too much self-gratification, entitlement, fear of branching out, avoiding groups, vanity, and over-the-top emotional responses are simply not going to work during this transit, which is going to last until 2028. Instead, use that Leo charm for the community. Leo’s warmth, generosity, and ease when it comes to bringing people together. Combine that with that unique Aquarian flair, and that is what we all need right now.
Couldn’t Come At A Better Time
It seems like every other day we hear the phrase “unprecedented times.” We’ve been fighting economic challenges, urging for social change, and having to keep up with constantly changing political policies. The Nodes’ moving into Aquarius and Leo introduce themes that will define the unpredictable future ahead. As the North Node enters Aquarius, the focus symbolically shifts towards everything Aquarius represents.
Moving from the individual to the collective. Community, teamwork, innovation, and ideas that benefit society take center stage. This is the energy of rebellion, reform, and revolution, especially when existing systems no longer meet the needs of the community
With the South Node in Leo, the desire for ego is being released because it doesn’t fit the plan anymore. The individualism that was sold to us as a good thing, or “just the way of the world” (the “pull yourself up by the bootstraps, theory) is being dismantled. Are you ready to rid yourself of everything you were taught? Because as a collective, we all need to be ready and willing.
