After months of speculation as to where Tarik Skubal will be traded to, the Los Angeles Dodgers have taken the plunge. Coming off back-to-back Cy Young-winning campaigns, Skubal is heading out west to join LA. This comes as a shock to a few, with the Dodgers being linked to the superstar since his name was brought up in potential trades. What does this mean for the Detroit Tigers and the rest of the MLB?
Dodgers Trade for Skubal
The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired what some consider to be the best pitcher in the MLB, Tarik Skubal. They traded OF Zyhir Hope, RHP River Ryan, & RHP Brady Smith to the Detroit Tigers for the 2x-All Star. A hefty haul for someone who could be considered a “hired gun” if not signed to a long-term extension. With a rotation of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and now Skubal leading the charge, it will be extremely difficult to beat this team in the postseason.
Instant Reaction
The rich get richer. It’s really as simple as that. The best team in the MLB over the last two seasons just wrapped up their third straight World Series, essentially. For the Tigers, it was apparent they weren’t going to pay him what he was worth; to get the Dodgers’ 5th, 7th, and 17th best prospects is as good an offer as they received. It’s a good haul for a player you were going to lose for nothing after the season.
Final Thoughts
The back-to-back World Series champions are closing in on the first team to three-peat since the New York Yankees did from 1998-2000. This might be the most talented team in the last 20 years, in terms of individual talent. I can’t wait to see him make his Dodger debut. What did you make of the trade and does this lock up their third straight title?
