Despite the impressive start to the Nintendo Switch 2’s life cycle, there are reasons to be a little frustrated with it. It has sold almost 24 million units in a little over one year, which is in many ways a historic start. It already ranks 22nd all-time in console sales, and it has set records for Nintendo.
That said, some gamers are understandably frustrated by a few things. First of all, there has been a disappointing lack of the biggest and best first-party games. The console has Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World, both of which are good games, but it doesn’t have a Zelda, a 3D Mario, an Animal Crossing, or anything like that, and the upgraded versions of Switch games don’t count.
It also doesn’t have collector’s editions. There is no themed console, but the Switch had tons of them. Trials of Mana, Tears of the Kingdom, PokĂ©mon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Monster Hunter Rise, Mario, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and others all had special themed consoles on the original.
The Switch 2, to recap, is lacking in first-party big titles, and it doesn’t have any themed consoles. That could, according to a leak, change soon.
Zelda Remake Could Produce First Themed Switch 2

First things first: We know for sure that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is going to be remade for the Switch 2. It is highly likely that it will be a massive reimagining rather than a simple remake, much like the Final Fantasy VII remakes. In other words, it will be almost a new game.
So, while that’s not a new Zelda game for the console, it is substantial, and it’s likely to drive a surge in Switch 2 sales. What else might drive a surge? The fact that, according to a new leak, Nintendo’s about to debut the first themed console to go along with Ocarina of Time.
A leaker on X revealed some artwork for the console, which includes a themed dock and console as well as separate Joy-Cons and a Pro Controller. These would all be the first themed anything for the Switch 2, coming over a year after its release.
We still do not know when the Ocarina of Time remake is going to come out. It is predicted to come out this holiday season, but that’s still up in the air. All anyone has seen of the game is a brief teaser that shows zero gameplay. The entire teaser lasted mere seconds, so it barely even exists at all.
But with this new leak, it looks like that release date, whenever it ends up being, will be a monumental day for Zelda fans. Not only is the beloved classic being reimagined and/or remade for a modern audience and console, but that modern console will also be the first themed version, and it’s a wonderful design based on the classic game.
It is important to note that it is a leak, but those photos certainly do look credible. They don’t appear to be AI-generated or Photoshopped, either. The images appear to be real, but we can’t guarantee that this Switch 2 exists or is coming out until Nintendo confirms it.
Given the fact that they didn’t confirm the Ocarina of Time remake until well after it leaked, we may be waiting on confirmation about this console for a long time, too. Fortunately, the game is supposed to come out sooner rather than later, so it probably won’t be long until we know for certain. And if it’s real, then it’s an exciting time to be a Zelda fan.
