Ceres is a Roman goddess in Roman mythology.

On August 13th, Ceres will be home in Cancer. Ceres is one of the four major asteroids in astrology and she’s a powerhouse. During this transit, our need for emotional security, belonging and familiar comforts may become stronger.

Ceres represents nurturing, nourishment and the way we care for ourselves and others. As Ceres enters sensitive Cancer, these themes move closer to home. You may notice that you’re far more protective of the people you love or more aware of where your own emotional needs have been overlooked. Take this time period as a lesson that emotional nourishment is not an indulgence, and you don’t have to pour so much of yourself into others in order to have value.

What is Ceres

When talking about the astros, Ceres was once classified as an asteroid. It was the first member of the asteroid belt to be discovered when Giuseppe Piazzi spotted it in 1801. Because Ceres is much bigger and different from its rocky neighbors, scientists classified it as a dwarf planet in 2006.

Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and it’s the only dwarf planet located in the inner solar system. In mythology, Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture and all things maternal (her Greek counterpart is Demeter).

How Does Ceres React in Cancer

Tender is the right word for how Ceres feels when it’s in Cancer. Cancer being the zodiac sign we associate with motherly instincts and fertility, welcomes Ceres into its moonlit waters. Right now, take some time to turn your emotional needs inward.

Make your favorite comfort food, visit family, and indulge in the daily rituals that give you peace. Don’t skip those phone calls you make every Sunday to your grandmother! This transit will make you notice if you’ve been running on fumes, haven’t eat today, or forgot to sit down for a second (like a loving mother). This is an excellent time to give yourself a little TLC and not feel guilty about it.

Try to check your mood during Ceres in Cancer. You’ll be more sensitive to your kindness not be reciprocated and being taken for granted. You may also tend to go above and beyond for your loved ones more than usual. This could lead to burnout and a diminishing of the energy you need to function properly. Ceres, Cancer, and the moon all equal “the mother.” Make sure you don’t end up smothering the ones you love right now.

How Can Cancer Zodiac Signs Create Safety

One of the best ways to create emotional safety during this transit is to make your environment feel supportive and more comfortable to you. Decluttering your home, creating comforting routines, spending time near water, picnics under the moon, and establishing a peaceful private space are all things you can do to help regulate your emotions. Your surroundings may affect you more strongly than usual right now, so don’t underestimate the importance of your physical environment.

You can also create emotional safety by allowing yourself to have needs. Cancers can instinctively focus on protecting others, sometimes while quietly expecting the others to notice what the Cancer needs in return. During this transit, practice communicating directly: “I need reassurance,” “I need some space,” or “I need help.” Vulnerability can actually strengthen your relationships when it is expressed clearly rather than indirectly.

Ceres in Cancer also invites you to examine your relationship with the past. If it’s not too emotionally overwhelming, pull out those yearbooks or photo albums. Childhood memories or old family dynamics may resurface, but not to overwhelm you. This transit wants to show you where your definition of safety originated. Right now, I want you to ask yourself: What did I learn about love and caregiving in the past, and does that belief still serve me today?
