Caleb Flynn

A sentencing memorandum was filed prior to Caleb Flynn’s sentencing on Monday, October 5, 2026, for the aggravated murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn. In the memo, it revealed that the father of two had instructed his daughters, who were 9 and 11 at the time of their mother’s death, to lie to investigators.

Murder Conviction and Sentencing

Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his conviction in the death of his wife. Flynn had fabricated a story that in February 2026 a burglar broke into his family home and shot his wife while she was sleeping in bed.

There was little to no forensic evidence to prove he committed the crime, but there was no evidence that there was forced entry either. He said he called the police after waking up to the sound of gunshots to report his wife was killed, but that he did not see the intruder.

An Ohio jury found him guilty on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, on nine counts, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. The former American Idol contestant was sentenced by Judge Jeannine Pratt to life in prison for aggravated murder and murder charges, and an additional 9 years for tampering with evidence and 7 years for firearm enhancements, to be served consecutively.

Father Urges Daughters to Lie

Just before the former music pastor’s sentencing, it was revealed that he had tried to coerce his daughters into lying to investigators about the night of their mother’s death. According to the memorandum, both girls said their father told them “their statements could be the difference between life and death for him.”

He also told them to “deny that he had coached them and conceal the conversations from others.” In the sentencing memo, prosecutors asked that Flynn receive consecutive life sentences for his crime, noting he used his defenseless and grieving children to further assist him.

“Thus, after taking their mother from them, [Caleb] attempted to use his grieving daughters to reinforce the story he had created to protect himself,” prosecutors said in the memo. The young girls were truthful in their interviews with investigators and ultimately led to their father’s conviction with powerful testimony.

Victim Impact Statements

Although Flynn’s daughters were not physically in court for his sentencing hearing Monday, their impact statements were read aloud for everyone to hear. His youngest daughter was 9 at the time, and said her mother had the “voice of an angel.”

The crybaby began sobbing uncontrollably as the statements continued to be read. “She was my best friend. And then you chose to kill the only mother I ever had,” the youngest wrote. She then asked him in her statement, “What did she ever do to make you hate her so much?”

Before the judge handed down his sentence, his oldest daughter’s statement was read by her maternal grandmother. “Did you ever think about how much pain you would bring your own two daughters?” she asked.

“By the way, Ashley Flynn was the best thing that ever happened to you. You decided to throw it away for a girl who was half your age,” the oldest added, referencing his extramarital affair, which is alleged to be the motive behind Ashley Flynn’s murder.

The oldest daughter’s statement grew harsher with each line. At first, she said she still loves him. “I love you deeply with all my heart, and it’s sad that you can’t love anyone but yourself,” she wrote at the beginning, but by the end, she had moved past the sympathy.

“And by the way, I don’t plan on coming to see you,” she concluded.
