The race is over. Liverpool FC have won the Premier League 2024-2025 title. With a 5-1 win over the Tottenham Hotspurs at Anfield, Liverpool clinched their second Premier League title in the club’s history. However, they have been crowned champions of England on 20 occasions, tying Manchester United for most all-time. They have been in the mix for all European competitions since 2018. Since the 2018-2019 season, the Reds have finished in the top three in the league six times, including coming in second twice by a single point.
Liverpool FC Wins the Premier League!
Dominic Solanke headed one in for Tottenham to briefly put them in front. But then Liverpool started their domination with a Luis Diaz tap-in, an Alexis Mac Allister lightening kick and a Cody Gakpo score before halftime. Liverpool completely controlled the second half with the highlight being Mohamed Salah’s 28th goal of the season by way of a low shot past Tottenham goalie Guglielmo Vicario in the 63rd minute. For Salah, it was his first goal in six matches.
And the Hotspurs suffered additional disappointment when an own goal from Destiny Udogie capped the scoring for Liverpool. The Reds’ manager Arne Slot remarked after the game.
“This is difficult to put into words. It’s more than what I can describe… Everyone said we had already won it but you still feel pressure to get the point over the line.”
Liverpool’s Remarkable Season
This caps off a dominant season for Liverpool. They clinched the title in 34 games with a record of 25 wins, seven draws, and two losses. This coming just weeks after re-signing star players Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Speaking of Salah, with his goal in today’s game, he passes Sergio Aguero as the Premier League’s top foreign scorer with his 185th goal.
The first season under manager Slot has been a successful one, with Liverpool winning the Premier League in his first season. This is something very few have done. He will become the fifth manager in league history to accomplish this feat. The Reds title is even more amazing given the fact that as the season began, there were multiple questions about the future of the team. Would Salah and van Dijk remain? How would the team perform under Slot’s guidance?
Champions
The city and the players will never forget this historic moment. Congratulations Liverpool FC. After years of heartbreak and close races, you are the Champions of England!
