Gamers who have enjoyed PlayStation Stars and the benefits of being a member are in for some disheartening news. Sony announced that they will no longer accept new members to the loyalty program, which marks the beginning of its phased shutdown. The program was launched in 2022, and members could earn points that were used to redeem digital collectibles and more.
If you are a current member and decide to cancel your membership to PlayStation Stars, starting today, you won’t be able to rejoin and will lose all earned Points. Sony has confirmed that already existing members will still be able to earn Digital Collectibles, Points, and level up their status. This will last until July 23, 2025, at 7:59 a.m. PT.
When Will PlayStation Stars End?
Unfortunately, PlayStation Stars will come to an end on November 2, 2026. However, members can continue to redeem their points as long as they don’t expire before then. On a positive note, Sony announced that those who have earned Digital Collectibles will still be able to access them, even after the program shuts down. The company has advised members to redeem their points ahead of the program’s end to avoid losing them without any redeemed rewards.
On the company blog, Sony Interactive states that they “will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings“. Some gamers may be genuinely disappointed, while others are more focused on upcoming games and overall growth in the gaming industry. Some are hoping for a future loyalty program from the company, that is similiar but not as lacking. Only time will tell what programs and changes will be introduced for PlayStation gamers.
